We had a wonderful evening with beautiful food. Loved the Maria experience.

Restaurant Jan was incredible from beginning to end. Every course outdid the last, and the trip to the cheese room was truly unexpected and stood out from the handful of other Michelin starred establishments we have visited. The wine pairing was also wonderful as was the somm who explained each, as well as the whole team there.

We really wanted to like JAN, and the concept sounded promising: South African influences interpreted through French fine dining. Unfortunately, the actual meal was very disappointing. The opening bites were visually neat but very small and not particularly memorable. The trout with cucumber and wasabi was confusing — the seasoning completely overpowered the fish, to the point that we could barely tell it was trout. The cauliflower course looked and tasted more like a bowl of chips than a thoughtful composed dish. The biggest disappointment was the main course: duck with cherry, foie gras and bobotie. This should have been the highlight of the meal, but the duck was overcooked, dry and difficult to cut or eat. The foie gras was tiny yet still felt heavy and greasy, and the bobotie did not bring the dish together. Service was polite, and the restaurant has a clear story and identity, but for us the food itself did not live up to a Michelin-starred experience. The ideas were interesting on paper, but the execution lacked balance, precision and pleasure. For a restaurant at this level and price point, we expected much more.

One of the best experiences of my life. The atmosphere was amazing, everyone was really nice and making sure you're having the best experience and the food - the fooooood! - was from heaven.

What an experience. My wife and I came here for our anniversary; highly recommended for a special occasion. Execution of every component on a dish was intricate. Each dish, beautifully crafted and was an art piece at each course. The Sommelier did a fantastic job with recommending pairings throughout our meal. The cheese room was neat; each cheese, ordered from least to strongest, paired beautifully with each recommendation. This was paired with a red/white wine.

The entire experience was wonderful. The staff are friendly and the food is incredible. We also loved our visit to the cheese room. We highly recommend.

Wonderful dining experience for nine of us. Everyone was blown away at the very authentic, creative presentations and thoughtful food creations; surprises abound throughout the course of the dinner making the evening one to never forget. Jan is also very good at accommodating dietary restrictions for those that need them. This restaurant was our top choice for the 10 day visit to France. Jan was also kind enough to allow me to bring in a singer to sing Happy Birthday and the setting and acoustics were well suited.

As before, every plate was a wonderful surprise, both in taste and visual representation. Unforgettable! Dankie Jan

A wonderful evening spent at this restaurant on Rue Lascaris. The atmosphere is hushed and elegant, perfect for a refined dining experience. The presentation of the dishes is remarkable, with meticulous attention to every detail. I was particularly charmed by the small white rose delicately placed on the table. Everything was absolutely perfect.

Really enjoyed our experience here. 😊
