La Vieille Auberge

29/03/2024: On vacation this inn was recommended to us and then we fell in love with the warm place with its wood-burning fireplace and a great welcome and to finish off an excellent meal 👍
We can go there with our eyes closed.
Can not wait for next year
17/03/2024: Probably the best value for money in Vars. Simple but very clean and comfortable hotel with excellent and very friendly service. Bar and restaurant on site and breakfast well served. All just a few steps from the ski lifts.

17/03/2024: Failed tartiflette, although it's not very complicated, three thin slices of Reblochon cheese then potatoes bathed in cream. Oil not hot enough for fondue bourguignonne. Bit of rubber found in salad. Aperitifs, wine and dishes served at the same time... super fast service...
In short, we do not recommend it.

25/03/2024: Hotel on a human scale, very well maintained (impeccably clean), very close to the ski start and good restaurants, in an old village setting, decent-sized room with good bedding.
We will come back.

30/03/2024: Restaurant to avoid, unpleasant waiters, pierade 0 points...the stone does not cook the meat, the burners do not work, but no one comes to change them despite several requests.
Very very poorly received.
28/03/2024: At the foot of the slopes and ski-in/ski-out departure.
The location is perfect.
The renovation is recent and parking is available.
We appreciated the sympathy of all the staff.
We were able to book a quadruple room and add a triple room at the last minute for double use, so as not to share the room with our children.
The rates are a little high considering the size of the rooms and the lack of soundproofing, but it is sufficient for a weekend.
The restaurant was perfect but you have to remember to make a reservation.
Each room provides access to a ski locker. This is very appreciable, especially since it is heated.
Breakfast is offered for 17 euros per person.

10/03/2024: A sure value! A welcoming and caring team! The service is impeccable, the bedding is very comfortable and the rooms are very clean! The half-board option offers a varied breakfast and the dinners offered by the chef are quality! The little extra: a very nice SPA to relax after a great day of skiing! THANK YOU again to the whole team for this wonderful welcome, we will come back for sure! :) VINCENT family

12/03/2024: We’ve stopped here while skiing a number of times over the years for a quick lunch time bite.
This year the staff have been excellent.
Only criticism would be that space on the sunny area of the deck is limited.
Ps we’re a Scottish couple and the staff’s english was much better than our French.

02/04/2024: Had this lunch, spinach lasagna. Generous portion and excellent taste for a reasonable price.
Very warm welcome, extraordinary view! It really makes you want to come back.
28/03/2024: We had lunch in this somewhat isolated restaurant at the top of the Peynier and what a nice surprise!
The food is quality, there were 7 of us and we were all delighted with our dishes.
The staff is super friendly and the place too (the interior is not very big if the weather is bad but there is a nice outdoor terrace)
I recommend this restaurant if you are in Vars because seen from the terrace it is also very nice!

01/04/2024: Very efficient service with always a smile from the team. Very, very good value for money for a meal on the slopes. A very varied menu with mountain dishes and also a great suggestion of desserts. Everything is very plentiful. In short, a very good time.
28/03/2024: We had lunch at the Barjo restaurant and I was able to taste Berthoud there, which I didn't know.
And what a discovery it was, a pure delight!
The terrace is very pleasant in good weather

01/03/2024: As for the food it was good value for money. But the service was original to say the least, the waiter thought he was Mary Poppins and took the cutlery out of his pocket, and never came to clear our plates. This is surely explained by a lack of experience in catering but the staff were very commercial.

24/03/2024: Group of 13 came on March 22 after a great week and lots of good addresses tested in the area.
There would be a lot to say but we will summarize that it is not enough to offer a genepi to customers to compensate for the fact of serving portions which should (for octopus, crab sushi, scallops) be at least twice as important to be correct in a restaurant. The white wines offered were very acidic, despite a price of more than 55 euros per bottle. In short, keep your genep' and try to have correct practices, your customers will thank you for it and you will not be obliged to ask for false comments from your friends and your suppliers.
Otherwise for the atmosphere, it's a bit like a village party, which wouldn't be a problem if the sound wasn't totally deafening.
23/03/2024: A warm place, a caring team, impeccable service, a young girl who bent over backwards to satisfy us and be pleasant, thank you! We had a very nice evening. The 🦪 and the charcuterie plate were delicious and in perfect harmony with the recommended domain. Not to mention the giant and exceptional chocolate mousse!!! 🍫😋 A very friendly young team not to be missed during your stay in Vars. 😉
