Great jazz evening, decent meal, hearty and above all nice music and atmosphere. Tonight it was the DIXIELAND SENIORS I New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (with details on origins).

What great times we spend in this establishment... Such a jazzy atmosphere, the food is pretty good, but then this jazz is so "spontaneous", I loved it!!! Enlightened amateurs, it’s well worth the detour!!!

Good old jazz club in the heart of Paris. I went on a Monday, not crowded during the week, felt almost like a private show. Amazing jazz music by talented and experienced musicians that connected to the audience. I even got to sing with them during the break and took a poster from the bar home! Barman was also talkative and friendly. Show is 15€ each and it’s charged with the check on your way out.

On March 2, we had a wonderful evening, starting with a dinner, the food was good, then the orchestra Daniel Barda and his guest Iris Oettinger were truly excellent. And it was with pleasure that we found a fairly full room. Thank you for this good time that we spent with friends and we look forward to our next visit to Paris to share another pleasant evening.

Very intimate atmosphere in this cellar. Daniel Barda, Philippe Souplet, Claude Tissendier and Stéphane Nossereau are excellent musicians who revisit the standards of Fats Waller, Duke Ellington and jazz from the 1930s. Friendly welcome. The main course and dessert menu is €60 (including entry to the concert) and a pint of beer is €16. It's not great cuisine but it's OK. We had reservations but there was still space. We recommend.

I often go to the Petit Journal which is a cult jazz place for me. A “live” program every day of the year with wonderful musicians. I sometimes read people's opinions. I am sometimes surprised by their criticisms regarding the prices and the catering. In certain jazz clubs in Paris (I will not mention the name) the price of entry is 29 to 41 euros. You have to add the price of drinks on top of that..And all that for 75 minutes of music. It's sure that it's a small cellar and there are many others like this one which make Paris one of the most charming. Le Petit Journal has a very important reputation abroad. big hats off to the boss of this club who makes efforts to keep the club alive despite a very tough economic time. My opinion, our duty (if we really love jazz) not to make misplaced criticisms and on the contrary to protect this heritage with love and indulgence.

Boulangerie CHEVALIER

03/11/2023: it’s the boulangerie around the corner, i think it used to be french ownership but changed to a (?) Indian family, looks like mother and daughter there are always long lines and they don’t really talk to you or have time to introduce the products but good heavens where to find such a thing in Paris? also interestingly, they have kugelhopfs (treat which i grew to enjoy in Alsace which i haven’t found elsewhere in Paris / Ile de France) and various jewish treats like challah. the baguette de près (which is a baguette epi) is very good and very pretty. the feuillantines look pretty but i’ve never tried them before 🙂 UPDATE: now that i have moved from this quarter i appreciate how good this bakery is, it was just annoying from what i remember how many people were lined up on saturday morning (it’s a street that receives a lot of foot traffic since it’s a touristic district of Paris)
01/08/2023: Absolutely delicious! The baguettes and other breads are absolutely divine, they are always perfectly cooked. Also, it’s the perfect place if you wanna grab a quick bite or a quick lunch! I go there very often and I absolutely recommend!
