Le Grand Aigle sur Auray

Whenever we're in Auray, this large, yet manageable, restaurant is welcoming. The food is delicious and fresh, clean, and the service is friendly and welcoming. What more could you ask for? We keep coming back and recommending it, so that's a good sign! 👍👍

Very good restaurant with a quiet atmosphere

A colleague wanted to introduce me to this place. Aside from the very friendly and smiling waiter, I was disappointed by the food. There was very little choice, the appetizers were soggy, and the spring rolls were barely filled. I went there on Friday at lunchtime, and I must have gotten food poisoning because I had stomach pain and diarrhea from Friday evening until Sunday morning.

This little restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but if you go inside, you'll find quality food. Since it's a small place, you won't find all the usual suspects like the famous tempura or cheese fritters... but who cares! At least they don't resort to low-end French products like mixed vegetables with mayonnaise or other similar fare that you sometimes find in larger stores... On the other hand, if you order from the wok, you'll be pleasantly surprised! The gentleman who prepares your dish is truly an artist! He respects the ingredients and cleans his woks between each customer. (Unlike some larger restaurants that fry everything in the same oil.) From my experience (I'm quite familiar with HACCP 😉), I can guarantee he's top-notch! Thank you again for this wonderful culinary experience, sir. The only slight drawback of this restaurant is the somewhat dated atmosphere, but frankly, one can do without music or frills when the quality of the ingredients is paramount, as it was for us. The welcome was really basic, with no smile from the woman. She was watching a movie on her phone on a wine box in full view of the customers... as if no one could see. One or two cooks came to drop off extras without a smile or even a hello. The food was generally good, but two or three items, like the shrimp fritters and the calamari fritter, were lukewarm, almost cold, and quite bland. As for the restrooms: They were dirty everywhere except the tiles, as if they only cleaned that area. No toilet paper, no soap. The men's toilet was closed and out of order. The mirror was horrible and dirty (see photo). This suggests that perhaps the staff never clean certain areas. There was no soap for the women, and not even a toilet seat? I'd say there's room for improvement in terms of politeness and the restrooms. As for the food, it was good, just be careful with the temperature; one shrimp can be piping hot and the next lukewarm.
