All the children who don't want to grow up find themselves, certain evenings of the week, in imaginary land, or rather, at the Area. A place that retains its authenticity, populated by beautiful people. But the nicest one you will come across is Édouard, the owner, who serves drinks at the bar until closing, and welcomes you as if you had arrived at home. It's rare. A real balm to the heart. Thank you Édouard.

Surprise !

How often would you expect this combination - a funky little Lebanese/Brazilian joint, functionally a mom/pop operation, 200 meters around the corner from the tourist traps lining the Bastille? Just past the old and over-rated Bofingers, where I was dissed by the maitre'd last week for my unwillingness to put myself on his wait list. As if, buster.
I wanted something simple and quiet, after a long day's work -- I got the former, as by the end of dinner the front part of L'Area around the bar was alive with locals enjoying their Friday evening.
I'm no judge of the sides that came with my lamb brochettes, but those were high on my list for tasty and well done -- seared outside and pink inside, where the usual is grey and tough throughout. Daily special soup was endive I believe -- smooth and light in any event.
Wine choice is red/white - you could de-rust your hubcaps - go with it. And ambiance means a freshly wiped table. Value in context is outstanding, especially to pick up the vibe of the locals.
Again, you wouldn't travel to eat here, but if in the vicinity, you could do a lot worse.
