Auberge De La Goutille sur Capvern

Excellent experience at this hostel! The welcome was warm, the staff pleasant and helpful, and the atmosphere very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, and the stay was excellent. I highly recommend this place, where helpfulness and adaptability are guaranteed! Thank you for your hospitality!

It didn't reflect the photos. Sadly nothing was open and the owners left the auberge locked up. This is a mixed review. The rooms are beautiful, the bed was a super king. But everything was locked up and we had no access to the bar, the games room or the garden. When we checked in the owner told us to always keep the front door locked as the guest house is very large. We went up to our room but when we returned downstairs to explore the lounge and billiard room we found everything to be locked and the owner gone. I decided to explore the outside but there was a huge oak barrel blocking access to the decked patio so we weren't sure if we could go there. I decided to take a look. It was quite neglected and not like the photos. When I turned back I found a huge St Bernard dog blocking my way and growling at me. I'm not the best with dogs and so I had to turn my back so he would lose interest in me which he did for a while. I called my husband to try and distract the dog so I could escape past the barrel. It took me quite a few minutes and I thought I was a gonner but he turned to hubby and I sneaked out. Later I had to make friends with same giant growly dog when we went to our car by feeding him some paté from out of our car boot. He liked the paté and I think we made friends. However, I find it a bit worrying that the owners would leave a giant and possibly dangerous dog unattended and allowed to free roam around the auberge. Well, after that there was no chance we would try to enjoy the beautiful garden for fear of Mr growly attacking us. And so we were stuck in our hotel room. We tried to go for a walk but there wasnt much to see. As the restaurant was closed we went for food. At 7.30, it was a Tuesday and nowhere was open! Trudging around town we eventually found a pizza takeaway but it had just closed! We did manage to use it's self serve machine so we didn't starve. All in a a very disappointing stay, if only the bar and games room was open we would have had a lovely time.

Passing through the region for a wedding, we stayed at the inn. A peaceful place surrounded by lush greenery. The hostess is kind, helpful, and attentive. She cooked a homemade meal for us one evening, which was very much appreciated. She kindly offered to adjust the breakfast time for us the day after the wedding, allowing us to sleep in. Despite a small shower cubicle, the room had all the necessary comforts for a comfortable stay. The inn is clean, as was the apartment we stayed in. A magnificent place. A warm welcome, tastefully decorated rooms, a cozy atmosphere. Everything was perfect, right down to the excellent breakfast. I highly recommend this place… timeless… you'll love it ❤️
