Auberge les Granges sur Saint-Paul-Sur-Ubaye

We had booked a room with half-board several months in advance, and they put the wrong date on it. Luckily, they had space available. They didn't want to know we were vegetarian beforehand, unlike other guesthouses; we just had to mention it upon arrival, which I did. Unfortunately, the information got lost in the shuffle, and we were served chicken. When I mentioned again that we were vegetarian, the response was, "You should have mentioned it upon arrival." I replied that I had! So we waited 20 minutes, and a dry omelet with couscous and vegetables was served. Not very good and rather bland. They are very busy and therefore have a lot of staff, who, apart from this incident, gave us a warm welcome, but communication is lacking. The room was clean and comfortable, no complaints there, and the breakfast was plentiful.

It's a balcony between earth and sky with a mountain view. Friendly welcome. Nice menu and reasonable prices.

I have very fond memories of my stay during the GR 56. The person who runs the place managed the gîte and guests all by herself; she's very friendly. The dormitories and bathrooms are very clean, no complaints whatsoever. Thanks again to the seasonal worker who worked there at least from June.
