Had the most wonderful stay at Avril’s. If you’re looking to explore the Somme this is the best place to stay. They have the most amazing collection in the museum and the welcome is like being home from home. Wish we had stayed for longer, we will definitely be back and hope to not leave it another 30 years! Could not recommend enough!!!
Visited as we saw online that there was an WW1 excavated trench on site.
It was amazing and really interesting. We had lunch and drinks. A great menu in english. We are vegetarian and had struggled to find food on the trip. We ate well here. Beautiful surroundings with chickens and birds. Would recommend.
A superb stop when visiting WW1 sites Somme area. Really friendly, lots of inside and outside seating, chickens roam freely (a lovely sight) and cannot believe the cellar, trenches and museum are completely free to visit (part of the tea rooms/guest house) ...so interesting! An absolute 'must visit' when in the area. Great find!!
I just popped in for a cuppa and Avril was very welcoming, she was busy making gooseberry crumble in the kitchen when I arrived about 4pm, but she stopped to come and serve me. A nice little tea room with outside seating in a quite garden, but behind the property are preserved trenches, and the cellar was used an aid station in WW1.
Avril is amazing. Such a friendly lady who owns it. We got chatting away and within minutes we connected. A must stop off for visiting the Somme area and not to mention what she has in her back yard !!! One of the best places we’ve visited.
Such an interesting place to stop for a well deserved cup of tea!! Service was great as was the croque monsieur. The cellar and trench were the icing on the cake. The garden was beautiful . Chatted with owner and son. What lovely people. Do not miss a visit here. Wish we had known they did b and b! Will return
Avril is Awesome. She doesn't advertise this place but i will. My buddy and I only spent one day but should have been more. About a mile walk to Beaumont-Hamel and her place has a world class private museum (you really will NOT believe what is in there. ) Rooms are nice and big and she has a little restaurant attached to her guest house with beer on tap and a good English breakfast if you want as well. Sorry we didn't stay longer Avril. All the best to you and your son.
