We love older French hotels and the Bas-Breau in Barbizon is just perfect in its style. Lovingly maintained yet old enough to remember Robert Louis Stephenson, who visited Barbizon and wrote here in 1874 while recovering from an illness. We had a junior suite, which was sparkling clean, spacious and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast with many options. Barbizon itself is charming, with wonderful restaurants and many art galleries.

We stayed two nights at the inn, which had changed hands about ten days prior. Of course, everything wasn't perfect, but the staff's kindness made us forget the minor imperfections. The inn has certainly aged, and one can only hope it will regain its former glory. However, it has retained its charm, and those interested in the history of Barbizon will find reminders of its prestigious past. The rooms are comfortable without being luxurious. The restaurant menu could be expanded and supplemented with a set menu, but the dishes are well-prepared. The setting is pleasant, and one feels at home there.

21/09/2026: Very well located and has a pleasant terrace on the main street. The prices might be a little high, but the food is of very good quality and perfectly cooked. The service is really pleasant. The value for money is good for such a touristy village. We will gladly return.

24/01/2026: The crepes are pretty good, the real plus is that there's a small games room upstairs, however the wait is far too long
06/01/2026: Lovely little creperie in Barbizon. Open lunchtime and afternoon, but make sure you book in busy periods.
