Brasserie de la mer, France sur Calais

Located in a quiet town of Calais lyes a hidden gem of a seafood restaurant. Unsurpassing my wildest expectations for the quality of the seafood and the price paid. I am now readily looking forward to further delays on my ferry departures .

- A great discovery, this brasserie with its gastronomic flavor. A treat for the taste buds. - The Thai salmon that I tasted was a pure culinary marvel both for its presentation and for the mixture of flavors. - A good address to remember without a doubt in Calais, specializing in fish and seafood for 25 years.

During our stay in Calais, we discovered "La Brasserie de la Mer" during an evening meal, where the quality of the cuisine was top notch, the warm welcome, and the waitresses adorable. We came back two days later to enjoy their good cuisine again. We will come back.

The restaurant was full. There was an action with mussels. Whatever the reason, we decided on the 3 course menu. That was probably the mistake. Due to the large number of guests and the really delicious looking dishes on the other tables, we were really looking forward to it. For starters we ordered a fish soup with seafood and coconut milk. Tastes very good. Unfortunately, we bit the dust in between. The main course was a delicious sea bass fillet steamed on the skin with a small spoonful of vegetables and a mini portion of salad and soft cooked brown rice. The sauce was very thick. So far everything was pretty good. Then came dessert: Panna cotta with fruit puree. Horrible and inedible 🤢 Cream pudding with a very sweet ready-made sauce, whipped cream and sugar sprinkles. After 2 bites we surrendered. Some time later an attentive waitress noticed that we were no longer eating. She asked us about it. We explained our problem to her. Nothing happened after that. After about 15 minutes we addressed the problem again. We were allowed to choose a different dessert. Pear Helene and Brownie were better than the Panna Cotta - but not really tasty either. Price-performance ratio is definitely too expensive for the quality of the food.

Ate here last year and very impressed, so booked again. Very popular….this was a Thursday evening, and pleased we had booked ahead. Great menu…..fish and seafood a specialty. Multi lingual staff and efficient service. Very reasonable pricing for the quality of the fare. Very central with large free parking on the nearby square. Has been consistently good for several years.

Very good menu choice, with plenty of variety. The food was very good, as was the service. Very busy for a Thursday, so would recommend booking at weekend.
