Cafe du Stade sur Carentan

It was a must-see in town because of the history of the place, especially if you've seen the series "Band of Brothers." The service was excellent; we were attended to immediately. The atmosphere was interesting; several people were watching a horse race with great enthusiasm. It's a shame that there's hardly any information about the history of the place in the shop. I think they should promote it more; all I saw were lottery tickets and various flags from different countries, seemingly out of place. I hope they change that.

This is a very important stop on your Band of Brothers tour of Europe. In June of 1944, when the 506th PIR assaulted the town of Carentan, Easy Company approached the town from the south. As they neared this cafe, they came under fire from German MGs nearby. Across the street is a pharmacy. It was a pharmacy back in 1944 too. Some of the Easy Company men took shelter behind it. If you’re walking the footsteps of the Band of Brothers, make sure your route takes you by this cafe. If you’re hungry or thirsty, you might consider stopping inside for some refreshment.
