Meeting Madame Gondree one of the first people to be liberated as well as the cafe in WWII, it was a special moment, a truly lovely lady that was so interested in ourselves as well as her stories, there is so much history within with artefacts, pictures etc, we treated ourselves to well deserved omelette and Gondree special platter which was scrumptious. Every time I am near by I will be stopping by, it's a must

Full of character with the sophisticated and fiery “Madame” Gondree at the helm! We shared the ‘daily special’ - a concoction of delicious leftovers, especially the tuna stuffed egg. Not cheap but a prime and historical location. Not faultless - slightly grumpy staff, cash payment only, and one offsite loo - but 5 stars for the sheer experience of the place and stamina of Madame.

This is a cafe to visit and pay homage to Arlette Gondree and follow her rules of her unique cafe. It is remarkable that a full 80 after the liberation of her family home, she still greets each customer, takes your order, prepares your drinks, hand writes your bill and takes your payment. The menu is simple and the same as it has always been, the fare is local and freshly prepared. If you step outside the house rules you will soon know it, if you follow them you will get to hear a snippet of the history this unique place. It is a journey back in time as if time has stood still, the 21st Century is not embraced. If these are not things that you treasure then this is not your place. The only toilet is some distance from the property and extends the wartime experience for those venturing there.
