I chose this restaurant hoping to enjoy Chinese cuisine after spending several weeks in China: the experience was disappointing, especially with the €118 per person set menu. There weren't many Chinese dishes on the menu, and what was offered was rather bland and lacking in flavor (except for the pork dumpling). The service was decent and friendly, although the waiter tapped the back of my chair two or three times without apologizing or even noticing.

Had such a fantastic meal here. There is such a flavour explosion in every single dish. Many of the dishes felt unique. They gave you many amuse-bouches on the house to start the meal which were all delicious. These plus the appetizers were the stars of the show. Staff are super nice but there was a 40 min gap in the service at one point which was unfortunate. Otherwise the pacing was great. Food can’t be faulted though, was a special meal. Would come back again and again.

What a delight it was to eat at Cheval d’Or. I experienced deeply familiar flavors from my Chinese American childhood, woven with techniques and ingredients I recognize like old friends from my career as a chef. It’s always risky to reinterpret classics—nuance can easily get lost—but here, it came through in every dish. Much respect to Hanz and the efforts of his team. The lighting, sound, and overall ambiance in the back room were exactly what I was hoping for. Service was professional, informative, and prompt without ever feeling intrusive. The pacing of the meal was just right, giving my friend and me plenty of time to enjoy each dish and each other’s company. Favorite bites from the night: the first consommé of asparagus, celery and licorice root, the fermented bean butter with the house sourdough, the tortellini with mapo tofu sauce, the siu mai, the porridge with abalone and oyster mushrooms, the pavlova.

Someone told me this is the best restaurant in Paris. I honestly was suspicious and decided to give it a try...WOW! I adored every single minute spent here and while everything was delicious, my favorite dishes were the crepes suzette, the cote de boeuf, and their pavlova. Intimate dining experience with a very personal touch and attention to detail.

The gold menu was almost flawless, with only one small drawback being the dessert (pavlova), which was well below the rest and of little interest.

Incredible. We were eating non stop for about 3 hours with the tasting menu and every dish was more than delicious. The staff were all great and the food was genuinely up there with the best meals we’ve ever had. Cannot fault a thing.

The omni-creative Australian-Filipino chef Hanz Gueco is making the hooves of the post-Taku Sekine Cheval d’Or clatter. Since I was there, I opted for the 9-course Carte Blanche Gold Menu. 118 euros for such a deluge of wonders! Hats off. I'm told the divine pollack en papillote in lotus leaf (pumpkin, chestnut, sticky rice, ginger sauce, and hazelnut butter) is new: hold onto what seems to me to be a superb signature dish! Other highlights include the purple sweet potato and potato carpaccio, the shrimp tartine (rouille sauce, "Terre de Sienne" spices), and the May cabbage. A revisited Peking duck is the final savory course of this grand menu. I won't even attempt to compare it to SENsation. Try both! The 2020 La Levée Sauvignon Blanc from Alexandre Bain perfectly complemented this meal, even saving the day on the wine front. Indeed, the rest of the wine list struck me as overpriced. I'm always mentally prepared to spend 1,000 or 2,000 euros for a genuine Lalou Bize-Leroy, and many hundreds of euros for a Clos des Lambrays or a Chambertin from Trapet. But not for certain overpriced "natural" wines (especially since they're so close to Soces!). True to form, I mustn't fail to mention, as a highlight, the superb Hexagone coffee (from Colombia), roasted in Louargat, in the Côtes d'Armor.

What an experience. You are welcomed into Le Cheval d’Or by one of the service team. The open kitchen and bar seating with a dining area in the next room the restaurant has a real nice atmosphere and vibe. All I can say is come hungry and know you are in for a great culinary experience. We sat at the bar in front of the kitchen and I lover every moment watching the chefs work as a team. However if that’s not your jam request the dining area. Each plate was well thought out and 10/10. If you can visit Le Cheval d’Or, do it.

The Chinese cuisine is presented without embellishment or disguise: dark broths, perfectly balanced doughs, and patient cooking. The truth is, the entire menu is a delight from beginning to end.

18/04/2026: We tried the all-you-can-eat sushi at this restaurant and it was a wonderful discovery that we'll definitely repeat! Everything was delicious, fresh, and prepared to order. The staff was very friendly, and the soft classical music playing in the background created a lovely atmosphere... A real gem! The only slight drawback is that the all-you-can-eat menu doesn't offer as many choices as some other restaurants.
09/04/2026: I'll be back at Sumo. The food is very good and excellent value for money!

23/04/2026: This all-you-can-eat hotpot in Paris was such a pleasant surprise. For around €30 per person, the value is honestly amazing. We thought we could easily do several rounds, but by the second round we were already completely full. We chose the dry pot with shrimp, and it was super flavorful. The fried shrimp was crispy and really good too. There were also lots of side dishes to choose from, including things like fried pork cutlet and fried rice, which made the buffet feel even more worth it. The ingredients tasted fresh and definitely not like frozen food. I was also surprised that the sauce station had free braised chicken feet, which was a nice bonus. The price is already very reasonable, and during certain hours there are extra discounts, so you can eat here for just over €20. A great spot if you want affordable and filling hotpot in Paris.
23/04/2026: Really good value for an all-you-can-eat hotpot in Paris. The price is very reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. Everything tasted fresh, and there were plenty of options beyond the hotpot itself. The dry pot was delicious and the shrimp was especially tasty. I also liked that the buffet included extra items like fried snacks and rice, so there was a lot to choose from. We expected to eat much more, but got full surprisingly fast. Another nice surprise was the free side items at the sauce bar. With their discount hours, the meal can be even cheaper, which makes this place feel like a great deal overall. Definitely worth visiting if you are looking for a satisfying hotpot buffet in Paris.
