Charming little village. It's worth taking a stroll through the narrow streets along the river.

Magnificent abbey; I was surprised to see the colors inside. If you're passing through, go see it; you won't be disappointed.

A must-see site (its UNESCO World Heritage listing is entirely justified). The temporary exhibitions are also very interesting.

A must-see for early medieval cave art enthusiasts. The frescoes on the vault are exceptionally rich in pictography. A couple of tips: prepare your visit by briefly studying some of the biblical passages depicted so you can enjoy recognizing them; and follow the guided tour to access the gallery, as it's otherwise inaccessible, so plan your arrival according to the tour departure times.

Spectacular location, but the price is perhaps disproportionate.

Majestic abbey. A lovely walk to be had in this charming little town.

Magnificent abbey and church. We visited in early December 2025 and were the only visitors. There's an interesting video (historical fiction) on the second floor of the abbey. The church is free to visit and definitely worth seeing. The museum displays need a complete overhaul in both content and presentation: sometimes simplistic, sometimes opaque and confusing (technical terms are not explained), and sometimes inaccurate (the New Testament is written up to the "11th century" instead of the "2nd century"). We didn't use the tablets; we preferred to consult some scholarly websites.

An exceptional guide, she took us on a journey through time and answered our many questions. Plan to spend the whole day there. The ticket is valid all day. There are bars and restaurants all around the square. You can also stroll along the Gartempe River and through the streets of the small town if you enjoy historic architecture. I highly recommend it, even if you're from the area!
