Guenmai sur Paris

One of the many things my husband and I love about France is the dining experience. Guenmaï will forever be a treasure. A newly made French friend invited us out to her favorite neighborhood café~ Guenmaï. We had coffee and dessert~ so many traditional offerings with a homemade flair that made it difficult to choose. We went with a crumbly topped, chunky yet creamy smooth tarte aux pommes. Although the food was delicious, and we will go back for more, what made the moment even more memorable was the hospitality of the owners and their team. They were very kind, they joined our conversation, and they were very patient with our French even though they spoke perfect English. A positive first experience. Very good food, beautiful presentation of the dishes, lovely decor. Without drinks, the price is 30-40 euros! A pleasant atmosphere until someone arrived and used their phone on speakerphone, which prompted my departure. Obviously, this has nothing to do with the otherwise pleasant restaurant. Perhaps a well-placed sign or a small note about this in the menu would help.

Wandering along around this quaint neighborhood, (very close to the Delacroix museum), we discovered this wonderful little macrobiotic restaurant. Guenmai was one of my favorite culinary experiences on our European tour this spring. The owner is lovely and although our French is very poor, we were able to come up with a great meal for two vegans that was satisfying and delicious . We started with the miso soup, which was one of the best I have ever had, with deep umami flavors and a more mushroom based flavor. It was fantastic. The 2nd course we had was a tartin with this incredible carmelized crust and full of wonderful vegetables … my mouth is watering thinking about it , last was a plate of mixed greens, beans and other vegetables , all marinated and seasoned differently, but surprisingly they paired well with each other!!! . An exquisite meal, with outstanding service and a charming interior. I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a great meal .
