Hippopotamus Marseille Vieux Port sur Marseille

We've been looking for a Chinese restaurant ever since we moved here (2 years ago). In Chicago, we have Chinatown with authentic recipes, so we really appreciated the food here. It's a great atmosphere with good service! We ordered the eggplant (very good), the spicy beef, and the spicy chicken. We love spicy food, and it was delicious! A little tip for the chicken: it should have half or more chili peppers, and the rest were small pieces of chicken. We prefer less chili pepper. For us, The Mandarin Oriental is like the Matrix. You have to go up the stairs, and the hallway is a bit like the Matrix with the elevator. lol. We loved it, and every time I was there, the other people were Asian. For us, that's a very good sign!!

I wish it could be more dishes in the menu, the food took over 30 minutes to cook (we had 4 dishes) the bathroom was clean and we liked the place. Going up we didn't know it was a button to klick but then we needed to get up the stairs with our luggage so if your on a wheelchair idk if u getting up there tbh. The menu was mostly on chinese and French so if your only an English speaker ask the workers to translate. The staff was very kind and food was ab delicious

The food tasted authentic and the service was excellent. However, the portions were shockingly small. I could accept a slightly higher price and larger portions, but a dish served on a tiny plate was barely enough to fill a person's teeth! The taste was genuinely good, like home-style cooking.

Their ratings don’t do them justice, definitely worth a try if you are looking for some Chinese food in Marseille! It’s a family run place, the menu is quite diverse and has a lot of options, we had the sui mai, mixed seafood fried rice, stir fried seafood and the chicken with mushrooms, each of them equally flavorful. The restaurant is located on the second floor, you need to press the button next to their name plate at the door to open the door. It is located at a few minutes walking distance from the old port.

The restaurant is located not far from Newport. The entrance is quite inconspicuous — the front door on the first floor is locked, and you need to press a button to be let in. I spent quite a while looking for the entrance and was almost ready to give up before finally noticing the button. After entering, I realized the restaurant is on the second floor. The staircase is fairly steep, and there is no elevator. Once inside, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered several dishes, including stir-fried seasonal vegetables, Yangzhou fried rice, sautéed beef, Peking duck, and dry-braised shrimp. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, but everything was decent and acceptable in taste.

What a fantastic find this restaurant on the old port was! The food was excellent, and the service very friendly. The restaurant was practically empty, yet everything was superb: there were seven of us, including three children, and we spent €22 per person. The decor is rather vintage, but what really matters is the food.

Excellent, the food was great, the waiters/waitresses were lovely, and we were served quickly. I recommend it.

The owner was incredibly kind. My friend had a flare-up of gastroenteritis, and there wasn't much light food available. The owner cooked us a bowl of egg noodle soup, which wasn't on the menu. It was simple yet delicious. I'm so grateful for the owner's kindness and the chef's excellent cooking skills.
