La Coquille d'Or sur Menton

The name, the decor, the tableware, the menu… everything is themed 😄 I was a little worried it might be a tourist trap, but not at all: we ate very well and the service was great. You just have to get used to the waiters' very dry humor… sometimes you don't know if they're joking or not

We visited this restaurant on holiday from Australia two years ago and were keen to come back for the same excellent experience. It did not disappoint! The fish was so fresh, well cooked and delicious and the staff very friendly and efficient. Thank you Terry for a wonderful night, we hope to return before leaving Menton.

We came as a couple one evening when the restaurant was full, but a table was found for us after a short 30-minute wait. We really enjoyed the "Moules à Papa" (Daddy's Mussels) and the "Moules de Tonton" (Uncle's Mussels) 😂 and the restaurant's atmosphere. Special mention to Thierry for his kindness and the attention he gives to every table!

Excellent dinner! Loic gave us great advice so we could have a wonderful meal! Grilled seafood with a white wine from Cassis and a Limoncello cream dessert, a marvelous crème Suzette! We had a fantastic time! Thank you, Loic!

Beautiful establishment in a great location. The food was excellent, including perfectly cooked sole fillets and pasta with clams 👍. A varied menu and generous portions. The service was quick, very friendly, and welcoming. Thank you to Loïc for his excellent service. I highly recommend it.

Having worked in the restaurant industry myself, I can say I had a wonderful time! It was especially pleasant during the off-season. The salmon pasta was excellent, as were the paella and mussels. Special mention to the head waiter, who was friendly, professional, and provided impeccable service. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent bouillabaisse... perfect service. Great atmosphere, only slight problem: the bottle of Côtes de Provence is excessively priced. 68 euros!!!!

Great food, lovely venue, good service

"The Terrible Restaurant" There were four of us that evening. I ordered mussels. The waiter placed a bucket next to me for the waste. I noticed that flies had swarmed onto the bucket, so I had to put it on the floor so they wouldn't bother us. When the mussels arrived and the lid of the pot was opened, a smell of spoiled seafood wafted out. Visually, the mussels looked normal. I tasted some, and they seemed alright. But the smell coming from the pot was awful. At the whiff of that smell, flies swarmed in. They bothered everyone at our table. They landed on our heads, on our hands, and even got into our plates. I ate three mussels, but the fourth one didn't seem fresh, so I asked the waiter to take the pot away, explaining that my dish smelled like rotten seafood. He replied that the mussels were fresh, but that they smelled like that and that it was normal. Strange, I thought to myself; I'd never encountered such foul-smelling mussels, and I've eaten quite a few. As you've probably already guessed, no apology for the ruined dinner followed. The fries looked so unappetizing that I didn't even dare taste them. I did try the tuna we had also ordered. The tuna was fresh, but clearly overcooked. The desserts were extremely basic. For example, a scoop of ice cream drenched in liquid chocolate and topped with a generous amount of whipped cream from a can. It would seem that the restaurant's name has played a cruel trick on the establishment itself. It embodies detachment, immaturity, and an escapism from reality. One might almost wonder if this restaurant will end up like the characters in the eponymous novel. I gave it a 3-star rating because the appetizer (croutons with olive paste) was good, as was the gazpacho. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to those who enjoy good food prepared with fresh ingredients.

We hadn’t booked a table, and although the restaurant was very busy, the staff kindly managed to find us a table inside. There’s a huge menu to choose from, including several set menus, with lots of fish and seafood options. We decided on the beef fillet and the duck, and both were absolutely delicious. A basket of bread arrived first, followed by an olive tapenade. When the main courses arrived, the beef fillet was cooked to perfection — so tender it practically wobbled when you put your fork into it and literally melted in your mouth! The duck was delicious too, with lovely sauces. They even brought us another basket of bread so we could mop up every last bit of the sauce! We were far too full for dessert, but the meal was finished off with a couple of complimentary shots of a lovely sweet liqueur — a really nice touch. The service was fantastic throughout, friendly and attentive despite how busy they were. A really enjoyable meal and one we would totally recommend if you’re in Menton.
