La Fringale sur Cassis

Fantastic restaurant located in Cassis on a quiet street very close to the port! The pizzas are wood-fired and the sardines are excellent. All the dishes are fresh 😍 As for the desserts, they were homemade and we thoroughly enjoyed them ✨ The staff is amazing! If you're ever in Cassis, go without hesitation, the food is fantastic!

Great food, but the service fell short. ​Culinarilly, our visit to La Fringale was very good. The appetizer with large tomato slices and a tasty burrata in truffle oil was excellent. My faux-filet was also of good quality, rounded off by an outstanding gravy and a very delicious baked potato variant. An important note for travelers: The goat cheese salad is not vegetarian here. Apparently, that is quite normal in France, but for us, it was an unexpected downer. ​Unfortunately, the service simply could not keep up. It started when we were seated at a dirty table—the waiter did react immediately after we pointed it out, but it wasn't a great start. Napkins were missing and had to be requested, and we also had to ask for the tap water carafe, which is standard in the South of France and was given to every other table automatically. When we were asked if we wanted ice with the water and said yes, the ice was simply forgotten and never arrived. ​Additionally, the daily menu was taken from us before we could even choose, only to be put back down later without a word. The fact that no one checked on us even once during the meal unfortunately fit the overall impression. ​Verdict: The kitchen really knows what it's doing, but there is definitely room for improvement regarding the service.

Discovered by chance for a late lunch. Very friendly service, away from the port crowds. Good wood-fired pizza. I recommend it.
