During our bike tour, we took a short break to enjoy some oysters. We received a very warm and friendly welcome.

A little corner of paradise nestled in the heart of the marshes of Île de Ré, offering fresh, homemade products, oysters prepared in every way imaginable (hot, natural, as tartare, marinated...). We were warmly and kindly received by Charlotte, one of the owners, as it truly is a family business... A place to visit again and again.
We're almost starting to get used to it...

A short stop by bike, a lovely discovery, oysters prepared differently with great ideas, a nice setting, friendly and smiling owners with good background music.

We had dinner here after a mornings bike ride.
We had the prawns, mussels and the fish soup. You can taste the freshness in their produce and the mussels are served in the traditional way with bread and butter.

Located beside a cycle path, this is a place where you can buy delicious oysters to enjoy at home or on the premises. Reasonable prices, good quality white wines, courteous service. Calm and peaceful atmosphere.

A little math and economics for those who think €13 for 15 cooked clams is expensive: on the official wholesale market price websites (RMN, Franceagrimer), a kilo of clams costs €17 including VAT (compared to €10 five years ago). A clam weighs 60g. So, 16 clams per kilo. Therefore, raw clams at the wholesale price are €1 each. €15 for 15. To which you must add transport, storage, cooking, serving, water, gas, electricity, overhead, taxes, depreciation of construction work, equipment... In short, €13 for 15 is expensive for the weight of the meat, but it's practically a steal from an economic standpoint. And long live La Rhetaise, of which I have been a customer for 35 years (even if it was a little more confidential and artisanal than the one your parents used to make 😉)
