Lake Chalain is very beautiful, but Google sends you to the Cap Fun campsite where the beach is not interesting. It is better to go to Doucier beach, located opposite on the other side of the lake. It is a supervised municipal beach with a single rate of €5 per vehicle. There is more space, more shade, pedal boat rental and a small snack bar. I recommend this beach.

Turquoise blue in color, with a beautiful lagoon, it is one of the largest natural lakes in the Jura. Located in an exceptional site, framed by high limestone cliffs, this superb glacial lake of Chalain was born in the Quaternary period. Many water activities and fishing are practiced there. Significant remains of a lakeside city dating from the Neolithic period were discovered there in its sediments. A very beautiful day, passed too quickly...

Escape this tourist trap place. Exorbitant paid parking lots everywhere. No dogs allowed, in fact everything is prohibited. I can understand that preserving the site is essential, but still. If this continues, you will have to pay to see. Stopping in a CCar is an obstacle course or very expensive compared to the others (this is normal, since CCarists are considered rich). Touring the lake on foot is no more fun or pleasant than other, much less famous lakes. In short, bad memory of my visit. Fortunately, France is quite big.

Very nice walk to discover all the magnificent sites around the lake. Around the lake, camper van area, cap fun campsite, restaurant, cycle path (not paved), large green space at the edge of the lake for those bathed with fast food activities, ice cream. Please note paid parking on weekends, public holidays and summer holidays... great for spending a fun day with or without children....
