L'auberge sur Pouligny-Saint-Pierre

We went there during a trip to the Brenne Regional Natural Park. Having seen my review, and knowing the previous owners, they recommended it, but without knowing if the new owners were as good. So, we were a little disappointed. The meat on a spit, flambéed with whisky, was a nice presentation, but it didn't add much. I expected better. It was still enjoyable, but a bit pricey for what it was. On the other hand, we were served salad that hadn't even been washed. It was still full of dirt or sand… disgusting. When we pointed it out, they didn't even offer a replacement or compensation… just that the cook would be notified. 😐 For an aperitif, we tried some fried carp… it tasted like mud. The fish must have been too big or poorly washed. Really not good. Otherwise, the service was friendly and the setting was pleasant. I think the restaurant is capitalizing on the image of meat on a spit, which is appealing. But I think it would be a bit more creative. I'll let you form your own opinion.

We had just finished a visit to the Château d'Azay-le-Ferron. The staff welcomed us late in the evening without any problem. The starters, main courses, and desserts were very good, with a special mention for the prawn stew.

Incredible meal, superb service, high quality, super fast, friendly, and more than reasonable prices. Well done to the new team!

From the welcome to the meal, everything was perfect. The dishes, served on skewers, offered a choice of flambéed prawns or beef and duck breast—exceptional! We will definitely be back.

What can I say? The waitress was very, very friendly, and the meal was very good: €130 for three people (starter, main course, dessert, and a bottle of wine). Very reasonable, considering the quality and portion sizes. One minor point: the fries were just okay for the region 😂, but a stint in the North with some proper local potatoes would add something special to the dish. A simple, unpretentious inn that deserves to be better known. It offers parking, a pleasant indoor dining room and shaded terrace, professionally prepared dishes, and high-quality ingredients. We particularly enjoyed the house specialty, flambéed prawns cooked on a spit, as well as other excellent options. Bravo! We'll be back.
