Le Cheval Rouge sur Rambouillet

We had a pleasant dinner at this restaurant with its tasteful decor and welcoming staff. The food was very good. The only downside was that the dishes on offer were very wintry, whereas it was late May; we would have appreciated lighter options more in keeping with the season.

I had fond memories of Le Cheval Rouge... but that was before... warm welcome, old-fashioned dining room, appetizing €52 menu, lovely waitress, but the food itself was disappointing: two tiny slices of salmon, edible beef, lots of fat, and a burnt tart underneath... a bill of €200, really expensive for what it was, we were disappointed, it wasn't good quality at all!

I had the scallops and the sirloin steak, both very good! €52 for the three-course meal (starter, main, and dessert). Quick and friendly service, I recommend it.

Dining at Le Cheval Rouge remains an overall positive experience, enhanced by its tastefully decorated and pleasant setting. On the plate, the cuisine is traditional French, emphasizing quality ingredients and a rather good level of technical skill. I particularly appreciated the limited menu, which is often an excellent indicator of seasonal produce and homemade preparation. While the dishes are well-executed, they lack a touch of originality to truly surprise the palate. The service, although professional and efficient, could benefit from a more personal touch to complete the experience. A slight disappointment came at the end of the meal with dessert: a lemon macaron with ice cream, whose texture was too hard and sticky, not doing justice to the rest of the menu. As for the bill, it was a little high considering the simplicity of the offerings, although the prime location, directly opposite the grounds of the Château de Rambouillet, undoubtedly explains the price point. In summary, it is a serious and recommendable restaurant for lovers of tradition, although a few adjustments could make the experience perfect.

Very good restaurant, we will come back, everything was perfect from the starter to the dessert 🍨 the service was impeccable, keep it up because there aren't many serious restaurants left.

A must-try, and I'll definitely be back. Great atmosphere and delicious food. I highly recommend it.
