LE PIRATE sur Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Restaurant Le Pirate last weekend, on a dark and wet evening in Saint-Jean! Despite this, we felt very comfortable in the restaurant's enclosed 'outdoor' seating area, with heaters and warm blankets if needed. The service (one waiter working alone all evening) was warm, friendly and efficient and we felt we had one of the best traditional soup a l'oignon we have ever tasted, with just the right amount of sweetness and Gruyère cheese on top, it was really delicious! We had a very good bottle of wine which was well priced and also enjoyed our main courses, which were from the 'suggestions du jour' menu. We will look forward to returning to Le Pirate when we are back in Saint-Jean in the summer.

We had a very good meal. The dishes were tasty and plentiful. The paella was fantastic. The children's menu was also very generous.

Disappointed – would not return Unfortunately, our experience at Le Pirat was very poor. We ordered a skate wing and asked for it to be cooked in olive oil instead of butter. Instead, it was simply boiled in water with no spices and placed on top of Spanish rice. The dish was not appealing at all and did not taste good. On top of that, we paid 70 euros for two portions, which is completely unreasonable for such low quality food. The restaurant itself does not look clean and feels very worn down. The bathroom was really dirty, and the place had an unpleasant smell of fried food. It is sad that the owner does not take proper care of the restaurant. The only positive thing is the view, as it is located right by the water. Other than that, I would definitely not return to this place.

A relatively simple meal. The starter, a tomato bruschetta, was very salty (grains of salt between the diced tomatoes) and very oily. The main course was much better, although still very salty with more grains of salt. It's a shame because the half sea bream and the side dish were quite good. Good location on the port. €24 set menu for starter and main course.

Excellent restaurant! The menu was superb and the prices reasonable, plus the waiter was incredibly kind and professional! We recommend "Le Pirate" 100%!
