Les Compotes sur Strasbourg

Such a hidden gem in Strasbourg! Les Compotes feels like a warm hug. The coffee is excellent, and their homemade sweet treats are simply delicious. What really makes this place special, though, is the incredibly kind staff and the cozy, relaxing vibe. It’s the perfect spot to read a book, do a bit of work, or just catch up with a friend. I felt right at home and I will definitely be back!

I discovered it during the DiNoël festival, and the place is very pleasant, for a coffee or to come and work.

A pleasant coworking café with a good atmosphere, convenient hours, friendly staff, and a printer available. However, there's a clear lack of simple food options. If you want to come and work at lunchtime, there aren't really any sandwiches or quick snacks to grab. It would be helpful to add simple, reasonably priced sandwiches (around €4.50) in addition to the more expensive meals already offered. Another point: it would be better to allow laptops near the large window at the entrance. The space is open, and there's a lack of quieter corners for working without being too exposed. Otherwise, the restrooms are very well equipped, and the place remains convenient for working. And dogs are allowed, so it's nice to see them from time to time. UPDATE SINCE THEY REPLYED: No, I've been several times, and there weren't any sandwiches in the display case; otherwise, I wouldn't have mentioned it. Each time I've passed by, I've only seen sandwiches offered once.

Large tables, office chairs, and power outlets create an office atmosphere. But in my opinion, what distinguishes a café from a coworking space is above all the quiet, conducive to work, which I don't find at Les Compotes Café. It works very well in other cafés, though. I've been several times, and each time I've encountered coworkers talking very loudly with their headphones on, chatting amongst themselves for extended periods, or even playing music on their phones. Clearly, these aren't isolated incidents; it's the café's clientele. Honestly, even in a regular café, people rarely speak as loudly as those on video conferences. Yet, one of the basics of social interaction is adjusting the volume of your voice in a shared space, but with headphones on, they probably don't realize it... Since the coworking space is open and located in the center of the café, when activities are organized, the area is still filled with noise, even when the activities are in the adjacent rooms, because people have to come and go, and therefore spend time in the coworking space. There are often activities with children, which is great in itself, but let's not call a place where two-year-olds can run and laugh around the tables a coworking space; it's simply misleading for customers who have come to work. I asked the manager about how this noisy workspace operates: there's no quiet policy; if you want peace and quiet, you have to bring your own noise-canceling headphones. I'm happy to pay 6 euros for an espresso and a biscuit, and to access a workspace (because I'm a student, so I only get access with a purchase; otherwise, it's extra). However, without the workspace, I find it a bit expensive. In the future, I'll work elsewhere. On the other hand, for just having a coffee, Les Compotes Café is very pleasant and well-located in the heart of Neudorf, a stone's throw from the market square! And they organize lots of great activities (be aware, though, that it's not an economically inclusive third place; every time I've looked into workshops, the price set by the external providers was fixed and high).

I came here to prepare lectures and write my thesis and I was very well received: there seems to be room for everyone, the staff are friendly, it's quite nice and there's a good atmosphere without the music being too loud, so it's a big yes 👌🏻
