Les Loges sur Meschers-Sur-Gironde

A wooded and flowery campsite located near the forest in a fairly hilly area – lots of hills: something to keep in mind (walkers, cyclists... if you're not very athletic, this is important). Very well maintained, with a friendly team at reception, the bar, and in maintenance. They were very responsive; we had two power outages in our mobile home, which were quickly resolved, and a burnt-out lightbulb was changed in 5 minutes! Dog friendly! Our Golden Retriever was well received, but unfortunately, the coastline of the entire region isn't dog friendly! There are no nearby beaches where dogs are allowed, even in the evening (you have to defy the rules and go to smaller, less supervised beaches). For us, this was a real drawback – no long evening walks with the family by the water! Luckily, our day trip to Île d'Oléron allowed us a proper evening at the beach with our dog. Our mobile home: It was a privately owned mobile home (I found out too late; I don't like renting from private individuals). Clean (despite a dirty pair of underwear under the mattress of one of the children's beds), the interior was fine except for the bedding, which was disastrous. It really needs replacing; none of us slept comfortably! On the other hand, the exterior wasn't really to my taste: a lot of decorations, all kinds of lamps, rugs, mismatched flooring, and a small wooden terrace cluttered with an outdoor kitchen... (I prefer a minimalist decor to feel a bit more at home). The swimming pool: Perfect, a very decent size, always clean and supervised. The campsite offers activities for children and adults, which I won't comment on as we didn't participate. The snack bar, La Paillote: We ate well there several times. It's true that the hill is quite tiring when you drive up it several times a day. The beaches are right across the road; they're really beautiful, but you can tell they're at the estuary, so the water is very sandy. Just step outside the campsite and walk for 5 minutes. The village of Meschers is charming, close to St. Georges de Didonne, Royan, and Talmont (don't miss it!).

We spent a week as a family at Camping Les Loges. Unfortunately, in our opinion, this campsite doesn't really live up to its 5-star rating. The swimming pool is far too small for a campsite of this category, and we expected much better. The evening entertainment was also quite disappointing, especially for children. We've stayed at other campsites, and the evening entertainment offered was much more interesting, varied, and well-organized. We also found the staff to be very discreet, almost too discreet: sometimes it felt like there was hardly anyone in the campsite. It lacked a bit of atmosphere and energy. The campsite is also quite hilly, which isn't very practical with young children. Despite everything, we had a good week as a family and enjoyed our vacation. But to be honest, we won't be returning to this campsite. For an establishment advertised as 5-star, we expected much more entertainment and a lively atmosphere.

The campsite is well located near the town center and beaches, and the pool is clean and large. However, there's a lack of play equipment in the paddling pool (the brochure shows a slide). The mobile home was fine. The entertainment was average (the same entertainment both weeks), and the staff were too quiet, creating no atmosphere. The ground is on several levels, which wasn't mentioned in the description, and slopes down to the pool and the entertainment/restaurant area. This supposedly 5-star campsite is more like a 3-star!

Starting with the positives: A campsite within walking distance of the beach in a very wooded setting, a clean mobile home with good privacy. A great program of activities and evening entertainment, and a kids' club with a fantastic team! On the less positive side: a mobile home that's showing its age, no air conditioning in our mobile home at a supposedly 5-star campsite? And fans that cost extra per day during a heatwave? The facilities and the snack bar are outdated and far from what you'd expect from a 5-star campsite.

On the plus side, the staff were very friendly. The campsite was quiet and clean. However, the pool was very small. The prices at the bar were exorbitant; the more we went, the more the price increased (for the same drink). The mobile homes were crammed together, and our neighbors (the owners) were extremely noisy and disruptive (two dogs that barked all day long). All the games (pool, foosball, shuffleboard, etc.) were extra. To get to the bar, entertainment area, and pool, there was a huge hill to go down (and of course, back up). When you have a lung condition (or are elderly), this is a major inconvenience, and it's not mentioned on the campsite's website (in which case I wouldn't have booked a rental). After 15 years of camping all over France, this one unfortunately doesn't deserve 5 stars. We won't be returning. Despite everything, we have good family memories, for our only week of vacation each year.

The welcome was very friendly, but unfortunately, that's the only positive thing. I'm still trying to figure out where the 5 stars are. The mobile home was very spacious and new, but the bedding was very uncomfortable. There's no privacy whatsoever; the terraces are all right next to each other. The pool is very small. There's a bar/restaurant/grocery store, but it's only open Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, even though we were there during school holidays...unbelievable for a 5-star campsite. We were scouting it out for this summer. We definitely won't be going here.
