19/09/2026: I wanted a local specialty: the Salade camarguaise. In my opinion, the rice is the basis of the salad. It came accompanied by pickled anchovies. I come across many recipes online where cucumber is a key ingredient. Here, I counted 'no less than' four slices of cucumber and four halves of cherry tomatoes. Oh, and 1 egg cut in half. The balsamic dressing was a bit bland, or perhaps too little had been drizzled over the salad. The rice didn't have much flavor, and the lettuce itself? Crispy. That is never good, because it means it hasn't been washed enough! The salad was served with bread. Was I satisfied? No. It was mediocre. Not refined, not sufficiently flavorful. Perhaps I should have ordered Taureau de Camargue, the bull stew, after all. The terrace was wonderful and cozy, overlooking, among other things, the subject of Vincent van Gogh's painting 'Night Café'; nowadays, Café La Nuit is called Café Vincent van Gogh. The service was friendly and hurried, but definitely adequate. In short, with a better salad I would have had a better lunch, but it was certainly pleasant on the terrace...
