New Aqib sur Paris

During my last trip to Paris, I was looking for a good Indian restaurant. I had lunch at New Aqib and was delighted. Excellent value for money, the prices are reasonable, especially for the neighborhood, and the dishes are excellent and generous. The service is very friendly. I will definitely return. Highly recommended!

We arrived as a party of 4, the first into the restaurant for the evening service. The gentleman seating us appears to be the boss of this establishment, and his service honestly was the only thing I would negatively talk about, apart from the comparatively high prices for the food than the rest of the cities Indian Restaurants, particularly the side dishes like rice, which were sometimes nearly twice the price of comparable places. But, there is some effort put into the decor, so I thought hey, you pay for the surroundings sometimes too when you eat. The bossman took our order in a very commanding way, making comments or repeating because I didn't order alcohol, because we didn't all order rice AND naan bread, because we didn't order a starter. He may have had a point if the restaurant was packed and busy, but we were the first people in, and it was noticeable, there was a lot of space. Before he left the table, he asked "anything else?" and paused for literally 5 seconds after we had said no before he went away. The second anyone finished with a plate it was taken away directly. One of the friends I was dining with dropped a fork onto his plate, and the boss shouted "pay attention!" He would come over to ask how we were, which is normal, but would again ask if we wanted anything else and continue to look at us after we had said no, which made us feel a little uneasy. At the end, he brought over the menus for dessert and we said no thanks and he acted like we had just shot his dog. We asked for the bill, I had to pay with card and he was really annoyed with this, thankfully the rest of the party could pay cash. After this, he asked directly for a tip - I've lived in Paris for 5 years and this has never happened ever. We couldn't believe it. Food was great, no complaints. Even the other staff seemed nice. But maybe he should put someone in charge of serving who is able to upsell without being so rude and pushy. I wouldn't come back here again because of this service, and that's a shame because the food was decent. I suppose if you're interested to come here to eat, bring cash money and feel free to tip, he will ask you to do so. We had the Lamb Korma, Butter Chicken and a Chicken and Spinach dish whose name escapes me now, they were all eaten with no complaints! Fresh cheese naans too, obviously they have a decent tandoor back there. Rice was grand, neither special or bad, as expected, which is great. I had a coke zero priced slightly cheaper than most restaurants would offer it, at €3.80. The Kingfisher beers I am told went down very easy indeed. We didn't have starters or desserts but the menu offered a very good choice of dishes without being overwhelming, it was a very well thought out balance. Atmosphere - there was no music whatsoever, one TV with Bollywood which was nice, no sound. Restaurant was nicely decorated. If you're ordering for take away I think this would be a great place to order from!

Delicious food and little waiting time. The service was attentive and very friendly, but the constant jokes were a bit tiresome.

Excellent Indian restaurant with a wide selection, a peaceful summer terrace, and a comfortable, cool interior in the evening. The owner is very friendly and lives in the neighborhood; we'll definitely be back!
