Pizzeria La Bonne Mère sur Marseille

The pizzas were excellent, however the service left something to be desired…

This little restaurant has a soul; the checkered tablecloths, the photos of ancestors on the wall, the views of 19th-century Marseille… time seems to have stood still, and you sense that nothing is left to chance! The menu evokes the Provence of Pagnol. I order a Pape pizza with anchovies: I'm not usually a big fan, but my neighbor has just been served this pizza, which looks incredible and makes my mouth water! Here we go; mine arrives quickly, and oh my goodness, it's a delight! Pure bliss: everything is perfect! The balance of flavors, the texture of the dough, the freshness of the ingredients; for me, one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted! Go there without hesitation! I highly recommend it! Note: the tiramisu is also very good, and to top it all off, when I went to pay I was telling the waiter how much I enjoyed it, and he was so kind as to offer me a little limoncello before I left; honestly, that was a nice touch.

I took advantage of a weekend in Marseille to go to Notre-Dame de la Garde (the "Bonne Mère") for a pizza, a long-held dream finally fulfilled. The pizzas were absolutely delicious. The place is intimate and steeped in history. My only slight complaint is the somewhat distant welcome. Expect to pay between €25 and €35 ​​per person on average.
