We discovered Le Roman des Saveurs in Montmorillon, and the experience was rather mixed.
The restaurant has a very old-fashioned decor, even down to the table settings, which gives the whole place a somewhat "old-fashioned" feel. This might appeal to some, but it wasn't necessarily what charmed us most.
On the other hand, we were pleasantly surprised by the prices, especially considering the set menus and dishes offered. It's almost surprising how the establishment can offer such prices for the products advertised!
We both ordered a brioche with bacon and foie gras: a very pleasant surprise. The sauce was excellent, and the brioche was remarkably soft.
For my part, I then ordered a beef fillet with coffee sauce. The sauce was good, and the meat was also delicious. I had asked for it to be cooked rare, but it ended up being somewhere between rare and medium, so nothing too dramatic, especially if you're being picky. The staff was also quite pleasant.
Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the wait, which was far too long. We waited over an hour and a half between the clearing of our starters and the serving of our main course. There were indeed some large tables in the restaurant, so perhaps that contributed to the delay, but it's hard to know if it was an exception or the norm. What disappointed us most was that no apology was offered for the wait.
We ultimately had to leave before finishing our meal, which is a real shame because the food itself had pleasantly surprised us. (We had a long drive ahead of us.)
Interesting cuisine and more than reasonable prices, but the service was far too slow during our visit, which unfortunately spoiled the experience.
