Shanghai Kitchen sur Marseille

Delicious food and great service. We travel a lot and always look for yummy Asian foods... this place was an amazing find! We ordered Kung Pao (GongBao) Chicken and Pork Dumplings. Highly recommend this place.

The food was excellent (except for the red wine by the glass, which was utterly dreadful and would give you a headache for 24 hours). However, the welcome was very cold and unfriendly. Expect to pay around €30 for lunch, including a main course, side dish, glass of wine, and coffee. Too expensive for lunch. A shame.

This must be the only Chinese restaurant in Marseille where you actually get Chinese food and not a mix of everything from Asia. They also have the best eggplant in Marseille. Always make a reservation because otherwise you'll never get a table. Be aware of the loud customers, but at least you feel comfortable doing the same. The young waitress was so nice.

My favorite Asian restaurant in Marseille

The food was decent, the taste was good, it was authentic Chinese cuisine, and the price wasn't expensive. However, the service was truly appalling. There were three of us, and when we entered the restaurant, there were only two tables occupied, with about a dozen empty tables. The staff seated us in the corner (pictured below). Sitting there, one person was facing the wall, and the other was pressed against it, making it difficult to reach food or communicate. When we asked to sit elsewhere, the staff said they would check if other seats were reserved for the evening. I just want to ask, were all those dozen or so seats booked? With only one or two tables occupied, they immediately seated us in this kind of spot? Even if we had reservations, how long could we possibly eat for a casual meal? It's been so long since I've traveled all over Europe, and this is the first time I've encountered such a situation.

Don't expect to find dishes like at your local all-you-can-eat buffet! There, you'll find authentic local dishes. In fact, their main menu is in Chinese, but they also have one in French if you don't read it (like me). Excellent and truly original dishes that you won't find everywhere. Definitely worth discovering!!

Having lived in Shanghai, I can attest to the true flavors of the country. It's a pure joy to find authentic Chinese cuisine that actually tastes good.

Authentic Chinese cuisine, the kind you rarely find. We tried several dishes and everything was delicious. We'll be back.

I very much enjoyed the food here. They took me in on a busy night without a reservation. The flavors of both their spicy dishes and lighter, steamed seafood dishes are very authentic. I recommend the spicy pepper beef and steamed garlic shrimp. Yes, the service style is maybe more direct and more minimal. But a number of my favorite Asian joints are like this, and I don’t mind at all. Would come here again and again.
