There was a problem with the service, but the restaurant owner was businesslike and reacted well.

TaoKan is one of Michelin selections in my neighborhood. It was my first time and I enjoyed the food. Simple menu, happy and helpful crew with great service. Must try: Loc Lac with Chao Bo Cai

Fine cuisine, perhaps a little too much

The best refined Asian in Paris

This Michelin-recommended Chinese restaurant serves quality cuisine. The name "Taokan" means "to see" in Chinese, which is naturally better than "to hear" (to hear). I arrived at this small restaurant, located in an alleyway in the 6th District, on a Sunday evening, right after it opened. As time went on, it gradually became quite popular. However, I noticed there were no Chinese people there, a stark contrast to the Chinese patrons I've often seen at Chinese restaurants in Europe and the United States. Curious, I asked the owner (who spoke Chinese), who explained that the area seemed to have fewer Chinese residents, leading to a smaller Chinese clientele. I personally found the flavors of everything I tried at this Chinese restaurant to be quite authentic. I ordered the steamed shrimp dumplings, as recommended by the waiter, to avoid the potential flavor issues with the xiaolongbao (steamed dumplings) due to the type of meat. The shrimp dumplings had a perfect skin-to-filling ratio, and the shrimp were noticeably fresh; they were quite good. The hot and sour soup had a slightly spicy flavor, but everything else—the consistency, acidity, and ingredients—felt quite authentic, and the generous amount of ingredients was another plus. Finally, out of curiosity, I ordered some fried noodles. The sauce was noticeable but not overly greasy, and the noodles were perfectly separated and had a nice texture. The portion size was also just right, not too large. Overall, I think Taokan's Chinese cuisine is quite decent and not overly seasoned. Unlike some other Chinese restaurants, the portions are more suitable for sharing, rather than the large plates and bowls you see at other restaurants. Taokan's smaller portions are also suitable for single diners. I think the dining environment is far superior to many traditional Chinese restaurants. The seating area is sophisticated, and the dishes and serving pieces are of high quality. If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine in a refined setting near the area or in District 6, this is a good option.

Good restaurant. The food is excellent, but the portions are rather small and the prices are very high. You're definitely paying for the location and the neighborhood.
