I was visiting Reims from NYC and we have some very good food there. Version Originale is definitely up there. The dinner was actually very reasonable priced (the only reason our group of three was over €200 was because we ordered a €90 champagne bottle but you have to when you’re in the home of champagne).
I ordered this beef dish in a soy broth as an appetizer which was my favorite dish of the night. It really reminded me of pho but with a sharper, deeper flavor. Then I ordered the lamb which was also delicious. I was very surprised with the portions as in other fixed menu restaurants, the mains were slightly smaller. It had a good amount of vegetables and two large pieces lamb. Then for dessert I had this banana spring roll with ice cream and chocolate sauce. The banana spring roll wasn’t too sweet but when paired with the ice cream and chocolate it was 👌🏽.
For the table we had the escargot and fries. Those were also very good. The escargot was genuinely one of the best I’ve had. The texture was perfect and great to share. I will say I would’ve liked the fries to be slightly crispier but that’s because I prefer very well done fries.
The constant bread for the table was also delicious and essential in mopping up all the sauces.
I would highly recommend this place for a casual night out with a small group of friends or date night as it’s walking distance from shopping areas and bars
