05/02/2026: This was the most expensive night of our two-week trip through France and, unfortunately, our least favourite. We chose this remote destination specifically for the restaurant, "Joséphine à Table," but were told on arrival they wouldn't open it for just one reservation. Instead, we were ushered into a 5-course "experience" that cost 50% more than a Michelin-Bib Gourmand meal we’d had days earlier. For a total of €360 for dinner and a bed for the night (excluding breakfast), the value was simply not there. The courses were shared between two people, and the main meat course was very small—just a single slice of duck breast each, no fish course. To our surprise, dessert was not included in the set price, and the 'local' wine by the glass was very expensive. While the room itself was kitsch and fun, it was missing coffee-making facilities, had a couple of broken items, cut corners (e.g. re-used flipflops), and the toiletries were not premium at all. Spending nearly €400 was a shock. And the exchange still felt like we'd done something wrong by insisting we didn't need the very expensive breakfast. We truly wished we had spent another night at the chateau, with the local champagne for €7 a glass, and our night's stay a quarter of the price.
