The oldest chocolate store in Paris keeping the tradition going for generations since 1761. It is a lovely place to visit with lots of delicious sweets, they could be a bit pricey but a good option to treat yourself or your loved ones.

I got the "naughty" marshmallow sticks which has praline, milk chocolate, marshmallow and a biscuit inside and they were heavenly. Such nice people working here too.

The place is beautiful, with historic furniture. The atmosphere is charming, but above all, the products are of high quality, all accompanied by kindness and professionalism. Congratulations!

There are shops where you go to buy something, and others where you also come to find a piece of Paris. À la Mère de Famille, at 35 rue du Faubourg-Montmartre, undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. First, it's important to remember what this address represents. The shop was founded here in 1761 by Pierre-Jean Bernard, a young grocer from Coulommiers. Today, it is considered the oldest chocolate shop in Paris, and, quite remarkably, this historic shop has not changed its address or its business for over two and a half centuries. At the beginning of the 19th century, Marie-Adélaïde Bridault took over the business after her husband's death and significantly expanded its reputation. It was with her that the story of "La Mère de Famille" truly began. Owners and generations would follow, but the address would survive the Revolution, changes of regime, wars, and all the transformations of the neighborhood without losing its identity. And that's precisely the feeling you get when you walk through the door. The historic decor, preserved since the late 19th century, is wonderful with its antique tiles, patinated counters and woodwork, chandeliers, candy dishes, and an abundance of treats that immediately makes you want to look at everything and, let's be honest, buy everything! The place has been listed as a historical monument since 1984. But À la Mère de Famille would be just a very pretty museum if what's sold there weren't so delicious. And everything is. Chocolates, pralines, rochers, candied orange peels, fruit jellies, calissons, Florentines, Palets Montmartre, confectionery... It's extremely difficult to go in with a specific idea in mind and leave with only what you came for. The welcome contributes greatly to the pleasure. Everyone is kind, helpful, and offers good advice, despite the shop's considerable success. At Christmas or Easter, you sometimes have to be prepared to jostle a bit, as the shop is so crowded, which is ultimately part of its charm. We returned today, on a wonderfully sunny Sunday, clearly not conducive to chocolate cravings since, unusually, there was hardly anyone there. We therefore had the privilege of taking our time and exploring the shop from top to bottom, observing the decor, the window displays, the boxes, the candy dishes, and discovering at our leisure everything we usually only see in the midst of a much larger crowd. It's in moments like these that you realize just how exceptional this place is. À la Mère de Famille is certainly an essential chocolate shop, but it's also a true piece of Parisian heritage, still very much alive. And perhaps that's what makes it so remarkable. After 265 years, people still go in with the same simple desire: to treat themselves. A Parisian institution in the truest sense of the word. And probably one of the few shops where the main problem is managing not to buy everything.

A shop with quality chocolates, pleasant saleswomen who give good advice. Lots of choices, pre-made boxes or the option to create your own.

They are very kind. I bought one of each kind, and they are all delicious. I was upset that the Rocher melted because I hadn't even opened the packaging to eat it after returning to Korea, but it is still delicious.

Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need they will be happy to guide you through their selection. I’m happy that I found this boutique, I will just go here for souvenirs from now on.

The oldest and most renowned chocolate shop in Paris. It's a true paradise for those with a sweet tooth. The interior is decorated with retro wood paneling and antique display cases housing sweets, chocolates, biscuits, and desserts of all kinds. It's like stepping back in time... and then the aroma... Intoxicating, it's enough to make you drunk on the sweetness...
