There's a reason why the Auberge de Mestre Elie has existed for over 60 years, despite being located in a hamlet of a dozen houses, at the very end of a 9km departmental road that takes you from 700m to 1400m altitude. There's a reason why it has been featured several times on regional and national news programs (and continues to be).
It's because it's magnificent! The location is incredible, the charming hamlet of Bouchanières, on the edge of the Mercantour National Park. Its pretty little church, its view over the Var Valley via the Daluis Gorges... The welcome is warm and friendly; the hostess is so welcoming and kind. And of course, the food is superb, from start to finish, with a special mention for Eliane's ravioli, whether you choose the walnut or meat sauce (and I recommend ordering both if you're a large group)... The best ravioli in the world!
In short, it's definitely worth the trip, which is why it's still going strong after all these years, even though it's a bit of a drive to get there. It's truly worth it. If you go, you're in luck. Call ahead to make sure the Auberge is open (which it usually is, but double-check and let them know you're coming). And while you're there, take the opportunity to visit the Bouchanières honey farm (run by another family), and explore this beautiful area, see the church, and so on.

Very good local cuisine, a little difficult to access, the road is narrow, but worth the detour.

Thank you for contributing to the Saturday, August 30th, event I organized in the mountains, and a meal at your place. Everyone appreciated it. We'll be back soon at your wonderful restaurant.

One word: Perfect!! A unique menu, homemade and made with fresh products. The squash ravioli with walnut sauce were excellent and you can see that the fresh pasta is homemade. The lamb was very tender, and the zucchini lasagna was good and quite light. We enjoyed ourselves and for a good price (32€ for the starter-main course-cheese-dessert menu). The only negative point is the road to get to the restaurant which is a bit scary because it is very narrow, and two-way even though you can't pass 2 cars and with a lot of bends so little visibility in places if someone is coming the other way. Even if there are few vehicles passing there (there is only the inn at the end of the road), we were not at ease because there are not many places to pull over if you come across another car.

A work colleague has been telling me about this hostel for 2 years. So I went there😋😋, a real treat with local products, and even if the road is narrow, it's better to go there with a large stomach. Bon appétit

What a pleasure to have found this little hilltop inn, offering pure, generous, and carefully prepared cuisine. Attentive and fast service.
Unbeatable value for money, generous portions.
Thank you for existing and for continuing to preserve your terroir and heritage.
