The usual menu, excellently prepared in every respect. Service rather strict: we were only allowed to order our aperitif at exactly 7:00 PM. In summary: value for money.

We ate there on Saturday, May 30, 2026, and it wasn't our first time. The cuisine is home-style, regional, and locally sourced, with fresh, homemade ingredients. A set menu of starter, main course, cheese, and dessert was €19. Certainly the least expensive restaurant in Cahors; the dishes are simple but very good and generous. The setting is very pleasant, with a terrace shaded by a very old wisteria. Excellent value for money. I highly recommend it. Reservations are advised as it's often full.

It was friendly and excellent, hearty too, black pork potato gratin, homemade desserts, a treat for a really very reasonable price.

Passing through the region with friends. A restaurant with cold colors, reflecting the owner's personality, I suppose. We had a reservation for 13 on Ascension Thursday. We arrived at 11:54 am and the owner told us curtly, without a smile, that service didn't start until noon and that we had to wait outside on the terrace. Then, at 11:57 am, she opened the door to tell us to come in and went to the kitchen, sighing. We had to ask for an aperitif. The set menu, while fine for adults, was difficult for a teenager, so she only had one starter: a charcuterie platter, as there were no changes. Otherwise, it was either potato salad with herring or breaded pig's trotters. For the main course, there was cassoulet, daube, or andouillette sausage. On the plus side, the food is homemade and excellent. For me, the pig's trotters were amazing, and the cassoulet was also delicious. For my friends, the rest was also excellent. The homemade desserts were very good, and the service is good when the cooks come by, certainly the owner and another smiling lady. I saw the comments, and indeed, if you're not used to it, the welcome is just okay. The owner was sick with a lung problem. But hey, a smile 🙂 I hope the owner will take the feedback into account and do some self-reflection. I was a waitress for 20 years, and a smile is definitely essential.

The setting on the banks of the Lot River is truly pleasant and peaceful, perfect for spending quality time with friends or family. The welcome is warm, and the service is attentive and friendly from beginning to end. The dishes are generous, traditional, beautifully presented, and prepared with excellent ingredients. Special mention goes to the convivial atmosphere and the terrace, which offers a superb view of the barges and the river. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for enjoying a delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere in the heart of Cahors. Well done to the entire team at Le Bistrot des Gabares! It's a shame they're not members of the UMIH (Union of Hotel and Restaurant Industries) 😜😉
