Auberge Ensoleillée Restaurant sur Dun-Les-Places

Honestly, very good. Given the recent reviews, we were skeptical, but we were genuinely pleasantly surprised. The snails were perfectly seasoned, the poached egg was excellent, and the waiter was really very friendly. Decor: as is 😉

We arrived on September 10th with two horses for a stopover during a trail ride. We were very well received. The 28-euro menu was good and plentiful. The horses were welcomed into a perfectly secure paddock, supervised by the owners. Which is always reassuring, so they can rest. The tack room was placed in a safe, locked area. And dogs are welcome. An experience to be repeated as soon as possible.

Average food for the price, very average service.

Lunch under the trees with friendly, fast, and efficient service that we appreciated. We come here from time to time, and the change of ownership went smoothly. The snails, the eggs meurette, and the generous calf's head are highly recommended. The fromage blanc and the accompanying cream were very tasty. The wines are decent. We recommend this address in the heart of the Morvan.

Unfortunately, not really. The place is charming, but the food was mediocre. My wife and I had different menus. When we asked whether the oeufs en meurette were vegetarian, the inexperienced waitress confirmed it was; the fact that bacon is practically a traditional staple ingredient was unknown. Regardless, the sauce's aromatic quality was far from the promise of the dish. My culinary curiosity was punished with the choice of the tête de, the house specialty! The limp and fatty pieces lacked any refinement; a mushy ratatouille as a side dish was inappropriate and, on its own, OK at best. The chocolate mousse, with its consistency reminiscent of carriage grease, violated everything I'd learned about the dish; the chocolateiness was OK. My red wine from old vines came in a pitcher, which was inappropriate for a Burgundy and more reminiscent of a pharmacy.

Change of ownership. The food remains very good. It remains to be seen how long it lasts. Cheese is no longer available at will, nor is fromage blanc.

Charming and accessible by phone. Excellent meal. Just one small drawback: it's a bit noisy when the room is full, but we can eat on the terrace except when it's raining or too hot.

Lots of negative comments from those who know the place. Perhaps a little pricey, but it's a quiet and friendly place where I was looking for a simple meal while passing through. For those who are bitter about life or those who want fine dining, go to Loiseau in Saulieu...
