Bar le Relax sur Avallon

A magical, timeless place. I first discovered Le Relax about ten years ago, always on the road with my band. One Sunday around 3 p.m., we arrived in Avallon, having found nothing to eat along the way, and stumbled upon Le Relax! Jean-Luc gave us a very warm welcome, and Mireille's cooking was simple, delicious, and hearty—we were won over! Since then, whenever we go to the South of France, a stop at Le Relax is a must. We eat, we drink (except for the driver!), and we even get our instruments out at the end of the meal to finish in style—that's Jean-Luc's passion! Mireille even gave me her recipe for Époisses cheese sauce... A real treat! In short, if you're passing through Avallon around lunchtime, Le Relax is a place you absolutely must go for a casual, unpretentious meal! Try it, and you'll be hooked!

The owner, who also waits tables, is a lovely person. Very chatty and friendly. It's also nice to be able to eat even after 2 pm. The food is perfectly decent, though not exceptional.

An exceptional experience, simple yet delicious cuisine—everything you could ask for. I ordered the flank steak with Époisses sauce and I wasn't disappointed. The portion was generous, the meat tender (sourced from a local butcher), and cooked perfectly, just as I'd requested—rare. The owner, Jean-Luc, creates a wonderful atmosphere, which is exactly what we love about this kind of establishment: people who are happy doing what they do.
