One of the last classic bakeries (i.e., not organic/sourdough) that's so irresistible, I'm never disappointed. A must-stop whenever I'm in the area!
Yes, the sandwich is almost €6.
BUT (For example, a simple ham and cheese sandwich):
Crispy, flavorful bread,
A filling that's just right for the size of the bread, not half empty.
Fresh, crisp lettuce that actually tastes like lettuce.
Ham that actually tastes like ham.
Well-balanced cheese and pickles that add natural flavor.
How can you tell the quality? It's simple: if you ask for no sauce, no oil, no additives, like I did, the flavor is still there! Magic! 🤣
Very fast service. It's not your average neighborhood bakery, but that makes sense given the crowds that pass through every day if they don't want to create long lines (and even worse at Christmas). It's quick, yes, but while remaining perfectly polite and smiling, it's acceptable.
Otherwise, I find the comments astounding... (and to be honest, alarming regarding the state of "French taste")... always complaining about how "expensive" it is... lol! But when it comes to poisoning yourself with any other quick meal, the kind of industrial rip-off, soggy, crammed with sauces full of carcinogenic additives and unnecessary sugars, precisely to hide the fact that there's no real taste of any natural product inside, then no problem, you pay the same or double without batting an eye!
In short... if you're still old enough or educated enough to appreciate traditional French tastes, take advantage of the opportunity to visit one of these shops before they disappear... because given how the average Frenchman seems to have become a big American who doesn't care about taste or crunch as long as he gets his fix of sugar and fat, it seems they won't exist much longer!
