Overall, my opinion of Café de la Mairie is quite mixed.
I know this place well; I've been several times, and I want to be honest because there are some very good things… but also some things that are just not up to scratch.
Initially, I even left a positive review. I came alone, settled in with a hot chocolate, and was served by the owner, the one I call “Mr. Pink Floyd.” Tattooed, a bit rock 'n' roll, he sings at the bar, plays music, has a great sense of humor, and is full of life. Frankly, it's a pleasure to see someone like that, passionate, who creates such a lively atmosphere. His wife shares the same spirit—warm, friendly, and you can feel the real soul of this place.
I came back later for lunch. I had a homemade burger with fries, which was very good, perfectly cooked, with fresh ingredients—no complaints whatsoever. My wife had a steak tartare, which was also very well prepared. We finished with a gourmet coffee, everything was perfect, and we had a good time.
Just one detail at that point that already surprised me a bit: I was charged extra for mayonnaise even though it came with fries. It's not the price that's the problem, it's the principle; it feels a bit strange in this type of establishment. But anyway, I still left a good review because overall the experience was good.
And then we came back recently, just for two Viennese hot chocolates… and it was incomprehensible.
There were practically no one there, and yet we waited easily for a good fifteen minutes. No special attention, no follow-up, you get the feeling it wasn't a priority.
When the hot chocolates finally arrived, frankly, they were a letdown. The cups were half full, ridiculously small cups with almost no whipped cream; visually, they weren't appealing. And above all, when you've already had a proper Viennese hot chocolate served correctly in this same establishment, accompanied by Pink Floyd, you immediately notice the difference. This was rushed, careless, and lacking in generosity. Swallowed in two minutes, if that…
The real problem this time was the service.
The older gentleman who looked after us gave the impression of being experienced, but in reality, that wasn't the case at all. There was no presence, no humor, no energy, no customer service. You could tell he was uncomfortable, disengaged, almost detached… like he was on the sidelines.
And I'll be honest about one thing too: the presentation wasn't up to par. His very sloppy attire, his unkempt appearance, gave an image that didn't correspond at all to what one expects. It even somewhat dampened the desire to order, which is rather problematic in a place like this.
The contrast with Pink Floyd is striking. On one hand, you have someone passionate, vibrant, who makes you want to stay. On the other, service that completely ruins the experience.
It's a real shame, because the food is good, the place is nice, the atmosphere can be excellent… but there's a lack of consistency and a minimum level of attention to detail in the dining room and even in simple things like a Viennese hot chocolate.
Mr. Pink Floyd, you know what you're doing, you've already proven it. But clearly, you need to go back to basics. You need to really work on how to make a proper Viennese hot chocolate, because what was served wasn't up to standard.
And the dining room staff also needs to be brought up to speed. The older staff member should at least be dressed appropriately and neatly. It's far too sloppy, and yes, it kills the appetite.
Let me be clear: either the owner is in the dining room and everything runs smoothly, or you need to seriously retrain the team and get back to basics. Because these days, the experience depends too much on the person you get.
We're in this business, and these kinds of details are unforgivable.
It's a shame, because there's really something great to be done here.

Amazing 🥰
After two disappointments, I discovered this fantastic place
Beautiful and cozy, and a very likeable owner with his crew (friendliness is key)
Everything ran super smoothly and the place was quite full; the staff just walked around calmly without stress, a pleasure to see
The food was delicious, tasty, fresh, and beautifully presented
Definitely worth repeating
Congratulations on your business

We came for lunch yesterday as a family (6 people), the setting is very pleasant, the welcome was warm, the food was very good, the menu isn't overloaded with 36 different dishes (which guarantees fresh produce and homemade cooking), the price is more than reasonable considering the quality (€170 for drinks/mains/dessert for 6), I highly recommend it!
