Like characters from F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story collection *The Children of the Jazz*, we were the fortunate patrons of Carré Jazz, where everything was perfect from beginning to end: the sunshine, the champagne, the food, the staff's good humor and helpfulness, the panoramic view of the Maison Carrée's straight lines, and even the pleasant guitar notes someone was playing nearby, as if escaping from a hushed conversation between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan on an incognito holiday in Nîmes…
If Scott Fitzgerald's first novel was *This Side of Paradise*, my first lunch at Carré Jazz was *The Right Place*. 👍

A superb pub with lots of character, a bit like an Irish pub. The owner is very friendly. He takes the time to chat with you and is a true connoisseur of spirits. You can trust him completely, and the best part is, I'd say it's the ultimate pub, even though it's right across from the Maison Carrée, not even 15 meters away. A magnificent Roman monument in the beautiful central square of Nîmes, where locals and tourists alike come to have a drink and a bite to eat, which you can also do in this pub. Excellent food.

Gilles, the manager of Carré Jazz, is very affable and welcoming to customers, as is Christophe, his very friendly and warm colleague. There is a very pleasant outdoor terrace with a breathtaking view of the Maison Carrée, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
