There are some places you jealously guard, for fear they might become too well-known. Chez Bembe is one of them. It all starts with the embers. Here, they cook over a wood fire made from vine cuttings—an age-old tradition that infuses the meat with a delicate and subtle smokiness, impossible to replicate any other way. The duck breast is the perfect example: properly dried, then seared on the griddle with a precision that gives it a golden crust on the outside and a meltingly pink interior. Simple in appearance, masterful on the plate. The cheese board confirms that the restaurant makes no compromises on the quality of its products, and the desserts conclude the meal on a delicious note that makes you want to linger a little longer. But Chez Bembe is also about the atmosphere. The staff welcomes you with a natural warmth that immediately puts you at ease, and the chef—clearly passionate—embodies the very soul of the place. You can tell that each dish is a labor of love, not a routine affair. A hearty, honest, and generous cuisine, served with a smile. A truly wonderful place, highly recommended.

Thanks to his wine cellar, we were able to buy bottles of wine from Domaine Ledogar. He even recommended another winemaker we should discover. Benjamin gave us a very warm welcome as soon as we entered his bar, where you can feel the genuine warmth of the owner. Our only regret is not having eaten there. But we'll make a detour next time we're in the area. And we'll talk about rugby league with him again.
