Chez Bernadette sur Saint-Yrieix-La-Perche

We had a lovely ‘menu de jour’ meal here for a bargain. The food is not ‘cordon bleu’, but very tasty and nutritious It’s clearly very popular with local tradespeople for lunch, as well as a few other locals having social meals out. It’s not aimed at tourists, but we were made very welcome For any British folks who aren’t familiar with this sort of place, imagine the best ‘greasy spoon’ cafe you’ve ever been to, then think of it serving French home cooking instead, at about half the price you’d pay in the UK (4 courses, bread, ½ litre wine and coffees at less than £15 a head)

Small "worker's restaurant" as they were called before there was fast food.....unpretentious but well-cooked cuisine, choice of dishes, on-site cooking. There are few like that left, let's not hesitate to put them to work rather than eating a hamburger while driving your car in a large parking lot, the price is the same!!!!

It's on a busy road so you know what to expect if sat outside as traffic is coming past quite frequently. The owners are very nice and friendly and service is perfect.

On y a été pour déjeuner. La soupe était réconfortante. Suivait l’assiette de charcuterie avec une salade de couscous à l’orange. C’était succulent. Ensuite un choux farci ou des aiguillettes de poulet à la crème venaient parfaire le repas. Finalement le dessert et un café. Vraiment bon avec un excellent service.
