Chez Fonfon sur Marseille

An absolutely remarkable lunch at Chez Fonfon in Marseille! We started with magnificent oysters, impeccably fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with marine flavors. The bouillabaisse that followed was simply exceptional: generous, authentic, prepared with remarkably high-quality ingredients, and served according to Marseilles tradition. Without a doubt, one of the best we've ever had the pleasure of tasting. The entire meal was enhanced by an excellent wine, recommended with great expertise and perfectly paired with the dishes. The restaurant's atmosphere is elegant, warm, and typically Mediterranean. The service is attentive, efficient, and incredibly friendly. Founded in 1952 at the end of the tiny fishing port of Vallon des Auffes, Maison Fonfon is a Marseille institution, renowned worldwide for its bouillabaisse. Accessed by stairs, the dining room, decorated in shades of blue, immediately evokes the Mediterranean. The bouillabaisse is served according to time-honored traditions, with fresh fish, a golden broth, and homemade rouille—a truly authentic culinary experience. The service is meticulous and attentive, and the view of the small fishing port is enchanting. Be prepared to spend a considerable amount; bouillabaisse remains an exceptional dish at an exceptional price. Reservations are essential.

The location is certainly magnificent, but otherwise, the value for money isn't there. It's not bad, admittedly, but to charge these prices... Perhaps restaurant owners should go back to the origins of bouillabaisse.

Excellent bouillabaisse and impeccable service

We had the beetroot as a starter... very tasty and nice and light. The bouillabaisse was fantastic with lots of fish. It tasted amazing. Lovely view of the bustling harbor... a very nice evening.

A magnificent experience!! The best bouillabaisse in Marseille in an incredible setting, I love this place! The fish are presented to you before cooking, they explain how to enjoy this very well-prepared dish, and I tasted the owners' wine—excellent! Truly top-notch, I highly recommend it; a must-do at least once in a lifetime.

Delicious bouillabaisse “experience” with very friendly and professional staff, beautiful view including of the fishing boat pulling up and bringing fresh catch into the kitchen. Nice wines (local and otherwise) perfectly matched plus an interesting artisanal pastis to end a lovely relaxed pace lunch.

WOW. if you’re looking for an upscale seafood dinner, this is the place to go.

Excellent restaurant near the center of Marseille in a beautiful setting. Very pleasant welcome. Well-spaced tables. Lovely menu with an excellent fish dish. Very good dessert! Pavlova ++ Prices are reasonable

Perfection doesn't exist, which is why I'm not giving it 5 stars. However, everything else was perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive, the setting was pleasant, and the bouillabaisse was wonderful. And I haven't even mentioned the desserts! 🤤
