Chez Fonfon sur Marseille

It lived up to its reputation. The fisherman's platter, the bouillabaisse, and the Rossini ribeye were sublime. Thank you for this exceptional experience!

Returning to this restaurant after more than 20 years away. The new team has truly revitalized the restaurant, and the food is absolutely perfect. I highly recommend the bouillabaisse, which was flawless, even though I'm very picky. The service was also very good and attentive. A well-known address in Marseille, but one that retains all its charm, which I think has even increased in value compared to what I remember.

We went here because our Uber driver said the Bouillabaisse here was the best. It was definitely really great. Be warned that you must be a fish lover to like it. The Octopus was amazing as well.

A perfect experience for couples. The welcome, the view of the port from our table, the quality of the bouillabaisse and the rouille and aioli sauces, the wine... A truly wonderful experience.

Well, first word: bouillabaisse. Second: sublime. Born in Marseille but having long since moved away, and used to eating my mother's bouillabaisse, I finally came to taste the bouillabaisse at Chez Fonfon, nestled in the picturesque Vallon des Auffes, finally… First, there's the rich, fragrant broth, so red with saffron, then the croutons to generously spread with aioli or rouille, to delicately place on the surface of the broth, and then the fish, presented before being prepared, accompanied by generous potatoes. And then you let yourself go, you stop talking, you take more and more, the magic happens, the smell and taste of the fish, garlic, and saffron envelop you… sublime. And what can I say about the small glass of white wine, Cuvée des Césars, adding even more flavor to every bite… magical. From time to time, my gaze wanders around the room and the valley with its boats outside… ah, la la… The service is impeccable, discreet yet attentive; we are looked after with professionalism, humor, and generosity 👌 It wouldn't really be necessary to recommend going there; true gourmets, whether from Marseille or not, know or will know how to go. So, of course, the price is a bit high, but sometimes it's possible to treat yourself without worrying about the cost, for an exceptional dish in an ideal setting, for a beautiful, memorable day. The bouillabaisse was to die for. The lemon dessert was also delicious.

Comparing to the another iconic Bulabaise Restaurant in Marsaile, you get maybe more fish for a lower price but somehow I enjoyed the service and overall experience in the other one more. I wasn't offered any refill if the soup so it got cold in the end, maybe I should have asked but I was expecting it otherwise ( if you prefer the old style service). Air-conditioning is a big plus

A sublime place, an excellent bouillabaisse... one small drawback... I wasn't informed about the fish I ate... a shame... don't hesitate to ask if they can show it to you... thank you all the same

We had a wonderful evening: the staff were attentive without being intrusive. Bouillabaisse was a dish we discovered for the first time, and Fonfon's reputation as one of the best restaurants in Marseille for this dish is well-deserved: subtle and generous! The dining room was quiet (upstairs), which is what we had requested. There was a small view of the Vallon des Auffes cove. We will definitely return, and next time we will order the fish, depending on what's available. This is also Fonfon's specialty, and it's rare to find such a great selection in Marseille! Well done to this establishment!
