Chez Julien sur Paunat

We had a wonderful time at Julien's. The setting is idyllic, the service is very good, and the food is delicious. Thank you to Julien and his team for the lovely experience. The only downside is the price… Aside from the tourist appeal of the area, we found it difficult to justify the cost of our meals for the quality of the food.

Delightful restaurent in beautiful surroundings.

Wonderful little restaurant which has been run by the same family for 23 years. A bit off the beaten track but well worth it. It's situated in the Abbey grounds, tranquil setting. We sat outside, it was 23°. It took us just under an hour to get there. I don't think we passed one car. Over the last few years we've made it our mission to find ordinary restaurants, not potentious but serving wonderful French food, great local wines in great locations. It was lunchtime and the fixed price menu was €34 for three courses. It was fixed price but there was a choice of dishes. Sometimes a fixed price menu is not only fixed price but a fixed menu. Would we come again? Absolutely. And it's open all year round. We ate here again this lunchtime, absolutely fabulous surroundings and fantastic food. We ate outside on the terrace, nice and cool. The location is out of this world just next to the abbey. It's about an hour's drive but welll worth the trip.

As always a delightful evening, the atmosphere most convivial, the choice and quality excellent. And even more so because of individual time for preparation was given to my granddaughter who has celiac disease. She had her own menu. Thanks to Julian and his team.

Quiet environment, friendly service and excellent food.

I've eaten here twice, 10 years apart. The setting is incredible, being situated next to a beautiful and ancient abbey. The first time we went there was Opera being performed in the abbey, which drifted out across the courtyard, an unforgettable experience. The food is wonderful, fantastic local ingredients delivered honestly and with perfect execution. The host, Julien has an easy manner, is very likeable and remembered my mother who has visited a couple of times in the years between. Both visits will be talked about by my family for many years to come.

An exceptional place, incredibly friendly service, and excellent cuisine. It would be a shame to miss out! We'll be back!
