Day-Of sur Saint-Savin

Magnificent abbey and church. We visited in early December 2025 and were the only visitors. There's an interesting video (historical fiction) on the second floor of the abbey. The church is free to visit and definitely worth seeing. The museum displays need a complete overhaul in both content and presentation: sometimes simplistic, sometimes opaque and confusing (technical terms are not explained), and sometimes inaccurate (the New Testament is written up to the "11th century" instead of the "2nd century"). We didn't use the tablets; we preferred to consult some scholarly websites.

Majestic abbey. A lovely walk to be had in this charming little town.

An exceptional guide, she took us on a journey through time and answered our many questions. Plan to spend the whole day there. The ticket is valid all day. There are bars and restaurants all around the square. You can also stroll along the Gartempe River and through the streets of the small town if you enjoy historic architecture. I highly recommend it, even if you're from the area!

Undoubtedly, and without rival, the greatest marvel of Poitou. This unique treasure, for which expectations were low, won me over with its singularity and the quality of the guided tour. The only drawback: the abbey church, the jewel of the visit, is open to the public. The tour price (although excellent) therefore seems a little high.

Beautiful architecture that houses magnificent historical displays. The church is truly superb, with a remarkable fresco. A must-see!

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Abbey of Saint-Savin in the Vienne (86) is an exceptional treasure. Well worth a visit. Ideally, choose the guided tour, which includes access to the gallery. The guide was engaging and made the visit dynamic for both children and adults.

Absolutely splendid, an extremely interesting visit. Not to be missed under any circumstances.

While passing through Saint-Savin, I took the opportunity to visit the magnificent Saint-Savin Abbey. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Saint-Savin Abbey in the Vienne department (86) is an exceptional treasure with breathtakingly beautiful paintings 🤩. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend visiting this sublime abbey.
