Hippopotamus Alès sur Ales

While passing through Alès, we stumbled upon this restaurant. We weren't disappointed by the duck breast and the ravioli with porcini mushroom sauce. The dessert was also very good. A very warm welcome. Highly recommended.

A lovely restaurant with tasteful decor and a pleasant atmosphere. The service is smooth and fairly quick, which is appreciated. As for the food, the meat is generally good and well-cooked; you can tell the restaurant specializes in grilled dishes. The desserts are decent. However, two things could be improved. First, the welcome: it lacks a bit of warmth. If you don't say hello first, you almost wonder if anyone will... a smile makes a big difference. Second, the sauces, which are clearly the weak point of the meal. They taste mass-produced and somewhat spoil the experience, even though the meat is high quality. In short: a good place in Alès, with a nice setting and good meat, but it would benefit from paying more attention to the welcome and the small details of the menu to truly reach its full potential.

Everything is perfect, excellent value for money, service and cuisine worthy of the finest restaurants. 🙏

Passing through Alès, we stopped for dinner at the Steakhouse during the week, and it was a great idea. It was really good, and the servers were very pleasant. I highly recommend it!
