Hotel du commerce sur Pouilly-En-Auxois

We had lunch on the terrace; the service was friendly and quick. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the andouillette! Good value for money.

We ate there in the evening; the waitresses were great, and the welcome was pleasant. We ate well.

For many years since we discovered it by chance, we’ve loved this hotel for ski trips as a place to break the journey when driving from or back to Calais. The rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable, in a nice range of sizes. And whether you go for one of the fixed-price menus or à la carte, dinner here is a great way to remind yourself just how good French food and wine are. Breakfast includes yogurt, cereal, fruit, etc as well as excellent baguette and croissants. The setting in the town centre is both convenient (only a few minutes off the A6, and about 5.5 hours from Calais) and pretty: If you fancy a stroll, the summit of the Burgundy Canal is just around the corner, with a peaceful tree-lined cut linking the old port with the entrance to a long tunnel that runs under the village. And at the other end of town is a Super U with petrol station that’s perfect for stocking up with supplies and fuel before driving on to the Alps.

No complaints about the restaurant; the food was simple but good, and the welcome and service were very friendly and welcoming. However, the hotel room was very outdated and noisy, as it was located above the bar. The bathroom desperately needs updating, and its cleanliness was questionable at best. Luckily, it was only for one night.

Stopped for lunch on the way off the motorway. €20 set menu: starter, main course, dessert. Perfect. Good food. Very good, I recommend it. Only the small glass of wine at €8, good, but expensive... What a shame!

We visited on Friday, January 30, 2026, at noon (3 people). We received a very warm and friendly welcome from all the staff. The food was excellent and the portions were generous. The menu was lovely with plenty of choice. We will definitely return.

We had the €32 set menu, no complaints, it was delicious. Friendly welcome and a decent hotel.

On the way to our holiday destination, we made a quick stop in Pouilly-en-Auxois. Home-cooked food, attentive service, excellent value for money – I don't understand the negative reviews.
