Ikea sur Strasbourg

IKEA Strasbourg. Clearly a huge success, but always very crowded. Not enough checkouts open in general.

A wide selection in this store, but it doesn't compare to our culture. And as always, purchases are made out of desperation. The attractive price is a deterrent.

At IKEA, it's nice to find reasonably priced and often high-quality items (my "Billy" shelves date back to World War I!). The store is clean and pleasant despite the long walk. However, I agree with other reviews regarding the forced dehumanization of the store: the complete removal of cashiers and the (not very friendly) security guard stationed in front of the self-checkouts, conducting random checks. Furthermore, now when you look for an item, you're directed to computer screens. When I asked a salesperson for information, they were very kind but then sent me back to these screens. In my opinion, IKEA has made a radical choice that will hurt them in the short to medium term. I know some people who no longer go there because the cashiers are gone. Furthermore, you can now find decent, low-priced items in other stores that didn't exist when IKEA opened in Strasbourg. It's up to them... I also think the recent TV program about them, which highlighted the time spent versus profitability ratio for kitchen purchases, did them a lot of damage (not to mention the clever way they steered customers towards higher-margin products). Again, I think this is a huge mistake, both for the salespeople under constant stress and for the customers. It's not the best way to build loyalty if they feel rushed out the door. I have a long history in sales myself, so I know what I'm talking about.

We were there yesterday as a family with the young children, and as always, we were checked on the way out, but this time by a very pleasant and kind officer. Usually, it bothered us because we felt it was a waste of time, but this time it went very smoothly.

My battery was dead, it got me by the time I did my shopping.

All the staff (across all departments) were polite and friendly. I also had a great meal, and it was free thanks to my Ikea Family points. Thank you to the employees for their dedication and professionalism.

I wanted to buy a piece of furniture that was in the store, but to do so, I first had to place an order and create an account in order to pick up the item at the collection point. The cashier who was supposed to help us was completely unhelpful, so I left without the piece of furniture.
