Lovely cottage house with a farm and botany theme, a lovely garden with herbs veggies and donkeys!m (!) and of course a nice view of the cliff. Dinner was wonderful. Breakfast didn’t sound or look too impressive so we munched our own snacks.
🍴 Dinner
Mocktail tastes like fizzy orange juice and evokes childhood memories.
Appetizer: Homemade Focaccia infused with tomato and garlic with homegrown tomatoes. Chickpea pancake is pleasantly eggy.
Mushroom broth: The Spanish ham tastes good, but the cold soup gets a little greasy because of it.
Shrimp is the best. Very tender and flavorful with the shrimp head paste.
Monkfish with potatoes picked, pureed and juiced (?). The fish is boiled between raw and cooked, tender and flavorful. Savory, vinegary with a hint of star anise.
Pasta is cooked al dente, minty and healthy but not as exciting as the other two options.
Bread has crunchy crust and moist texture. Olive oil has strong olive taste.
Interesting selections of cutleries. Thoughtful. Today we learned about “French sauce spoon”.
—-
Guinea fowl with heart and liver broth. The mushrooms are really wonderful, maybe better than the meat itself. The liver pate is flavorful. The breast and leg parts are both tender and have crunchy skin.
Fennel from the garden is fun; my first time trying the plant itself. Portion is small but the taste is excellent.
Amberjack with carrot juice. Very meaty fish. The seasoning is nice though.
—-
Desserts are fine. (The most interesting thing is the apricot filled cookie that comes on the side. Aromatic ) The after dessert are better. The flan is awesome. Wiggly and creamy but not too sweet or heavy. Goes well with the verbena tea.
—-
The service is excellent, friendly and considerate.
—
The rooms are a little dated.

Hotel very close to the Gorges du Verdon and the beautiful village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. We chose this hotel to celebrate our mother's birthday during our stay in Provence, mainly because of its location and also because of its swimming pool.
We were quite satisfied. The room was quite spacious (but the layout of the furniture did not allow for comfortable storage of the 2 suitcases) and there was a bathtub, a plus in our opinion. The small terrace was also pleasant. However, the room allocated to us (Les Abeilles) was right next to the entrance gate, so we could hear all the cars passing by… (poor soundproofing) The room was also far from the reception, from the terrace of the breakfast and the swimming pool, you had to go up the road and some stairs in particular to access the swimming pool, so consider asking for a room closer to the main building if that might cause you problems.
The breakfast was quite poor considering the price. Pastries, a little bread, homemade jams (not good at all; the honey, on the other hand, was excellent), yogurt, and a little fruit (and not at all good summer fruit , just the typical one from a low-end hotel with a few pieces of apple, melon and a little bit of strawberries…). It was possible to ask for eggs, cheese (2 small halves for 2 people, no more and no choice either) and a charcuterie board. But often you had to wait (and there weren't many customers...) and there were no cereals, other fruits, other varieties of bread, smoked salmon or other things that you normally find in buffets at the same price in other 3-5 star hotels. Even worse, they decide to have a barbecue between 8:30-10:00 a.m. (???) and you have smoke while you have your breakfast!
If you are in the pool, there is no service: no one comes to ask you if you would like to drink or snack. The towels are there, you take them, you open the umbrella, but no one comes to help you or serve you.
Another nuisance: we had not made any reservations for the hotel restaurant, given that the prices are exorbitant and the menu very poor in choice and not to our taste (and there is so much choice in the village, that you have to rather want to go out and discover other places). However, every day we were called to ask if we would like to keep our reservation at the restaurant. By responding that we had not made a reservation and that we wanted to eat elsewhere, we understood their disappointment or rather frustration.
As if that wasn't enough, they try to sell us sleeping shirts for over 100 euros (???). But what century are we in? In short, we very kindly placed the shirts in the wardrobe (where you have almost no storage space).
The hotel is beautiful, the swimming pool is pleasant especially when it's hot (ah, the showers outside don't work) and after hiking around the Verdon Gorges, but these details are still annoying. We recommend the hotel anyway.

No stars for the rooms I only went to the restaurant.
Small, shaded and pleasant terrace. Competent waiters and waitresses, responsive and friendly. Very nice presentation of the dishes and very good and delicious. To do with reservation recommended.

Absolutely stunning hotel, which you already know if you’re checking reviews. Here’s my opinions based on my experience:
Pros:
Moustiers Saint Marie was, by far, my favorite town even compared to several other popular ones we visited (we went to a lot). It’s quiet, colorful, and filled with tons of great food and shops.
If you’re a lover of vintage, this hotel will be perfect for you.
The room attendants are exceptional. They came twice a day, we were given night shirts, and fruit and biscuits daily. Great service.
There is so much to explore at this hotel - the garden, pool, restaurant, and there are two really cool donkeys!
Overall, a gorgeous property that you’ll fall in love with.
Cons:
We read that they serve crepes for breakfast and were looking forward to those but when asked about them, the staff seemed to be shocked we would think they offer them.
We stayed in a room in the main building which is where the restaurant is - it got pretty loud during dinner time if we were in the room and that lasted til pretty late hours.
This one I will elaborate more on -
Dinner at their Michelin star restaurant was my least favorite meal of the entire trip, sadly.
Many people rave about this restaurant which you might too if you have a broad palette. I do not so my only real option that sounded good to me was the lemon risotto. It did state there would be mint, but that was presented as either a garnish or smaller side ingredient. Three of the four of us ordered this. When it was brought to the table the smell of mint was overwhelming. We thought maybe because so many were being put on the table but upon the first bite we were very caught off guard. It tasted like we were brushing our teeth. The small tasting courses before hand didn’t excite us very much either but I won’t go into any more detail. Moral of the story - probably the worst risotto of my life. But, there’s a chance you can have a totally different experience.
Shortest answer of my review: Absolutely stunning hotel and I would return again and again but I would not eat at the restaurant unless a different menu was available, which I’m sorry it would be.
